“Weekend Break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

Had an enjoyable stay at this hotel over the weekend in late September. Our room was at the top of the Hotel, which was a bit of a trek, but the room was very large & very comfortable. Staff were very helpful, and breakfast was also very good.
Would stay again

Room Tip: We stayed in room 17, which was excellent

Stayed here Friday and Saturday nights. On arrival our cases were taken up to our room for us which was up quite a few flights of stairs, with no lift, so was a little difficult due to my lack of mobility.
All the staff were really friendly and helpful and room clean on arrival and kept clean during stay.
Good choice of breakfasts and staff always read back and confirmed what we had ordered.
On the Saturday afternoon ( after 1.30 so no garage mechanics available) my car developed a fault. The lady on reception, probably the most helpful person I have ever met, made numerous calls for us until she found someone to come and and deal with the problem.
As mentioned in other reviews, the walk from the hotel down to Ventnor sea front, is down a very steep road (for me with reduced mobility) so needed a cab to get back. Mobile phone coverage is very poor on the seafront. There were 3 different networks between the 5 of us who went down, and we eventually had to get a barman to call a cab for us. Best to book a cab for the return journey before you leave the hotel. Would definately stay here again

Room Tip: There are a couple of rooms on the ground floor. Higher floors have rather less water flow through t...

spacious, lovely gardens and a heated outdoor pool. walkable from the beach and fom steehill cove (worth a visit). don't expect too much from the decor. good breakfast, cosy bar, reasonable value for UK.

First impressions of this hotel were ok. We were given a room upgrade to their premier room. And after hauling our case up 4 flights of stairs we reached our room. And OMG how fantastic it looked. We couldnt have hoped for a better suite. With sofa, chairs, kinsize bed, not to mention the seperate enormous bathroom with roll top bath. And a seperate dressing area. Amazing. But then the flaws appeared. No mirror at dressing table. Not able to have a proper shower and the water going from very cold to scalding hot. Tv in bedroom could do with being a bit bigger so that us blind old dears can see it from the bed.
These really are only niggles. The downstairs is where this hotel falls flat, it needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. A lick of paint and modern furniture in the lounge and dining room is all that is needed. The food is lovely, and being able to choose the content of your breakfast is a great idea. The staff need to learn how to pull a decent pint!!!!

Room Tip: Ideal location from which to explore the island. But no good if you looking for nightlife.

We recently spent a week at the hotel and couldn't fault it. We had a standard room and would probably upgrade to a premier room next time for more space. The hotel is ideally located to walk into Ventnor in the evening and to Steephill Cove. Breakfast was very good but the restaurant in the evening could do with a re-think of the menu. The staff are very friendly and appear genuinely interested in ensuring that you have a good stay. Don't be put off by the negative reviews this hotel has attracted. This is a three star hotel and you should not expect 4 star plus facilities as others who have reviewed this hotel appear to have expected more for their money. I would definately stay there again and look forward to booking in next year.

Room Tip: The road the hotel is situated on isn't very noisy so a room anywhere in the hotel will be okay.

We recently spent a Saturday and Sunday night at the Eversley Hotel, and having chosen one of the Premier rooms, were most satisfied with our stay. The accommodation itself was very spacious with a huge bed, good quality fixtures and fittings and a stylish bathroom, though the shower should have been more powerful. Being at the very top of the hotel it was also quiet and peaceful. The staff have enjoyed plaudits in previous reviews and rightly so as nothing was too much trouble, cheerfully dealing with any requests and at the same time offering advice regarding our stay in Ventnor, the town centre being only a ten minute walk from the hotel. Breakfast was a very pleasant experience with a wide selection, well prepared and served by ever cheerful waitresses. We are a mature couple, but the hotel was also very popular with young families, the swimming pool and games room providing entertainment for all ages.
On a cautionary note, our room was reached via three flights of stairs and there are no lifts nor was any help offered with luggage. Other than that the Eversley is recommended, we certainly intend to return.

Room Tip: Our room at the top of the hotel was very peaceful, just be sure you can carry luggage up three flig...

Myself, my lovely wife and our excitable ten and eight year olds headed for this hotel wanting to be in a quieter location. The hotel is certainly relaxed and our first impression was favourable. We were welcomed with a smile although the proprietor kept his gaze firmly on the computer screen (I've read this elsewhere) he was surveying. It was left to his son to greet us in a professional manner.

We were very early at around 11am, three hours before check-in. Our room was still occupied and it was suggested we took a look around the hotel and maybe a walk into the town. Our lads played a game of pool while myself and my wife sat outside and relaxed. Twenty five minutes later our room was ready. You can't argue with that! While we were waiting we did notice a lot of traffic noise. The hotel's promotional pictures make it appear that it is more remote than it is.

The room was clean and spacious, split into two separate areas, one for adults and the other for the kids in bunks. A small en-suite was between the rooms. The en-suite lost a few points out of my imaginary score out of a hundred. The shower was the type where you have to run around to get wet - not good if you are in need of a refreshing shower. It also took 5 minutes for hot water to emerge. I wouldn't call the en-suite smart, more ragged around the edges with a less than clean toilet bowl. However it was functional apart from the shower.

The double bed sagged somewhat but was okay (some points lost here). There was dust in many places where only the most experienced chamber maids know where to clean. My wife worked in highly rated hotels when she was young where they even used to clean the light bulbs! So she noticed a lot of the areas that were missed. I'm not being critical here but just noting what we saw. The rooms were not modern it being an old property, possibly Victorian. However, an good attempt has been made to decorate difficult areas that come with an elderly property.

Everything we needed was in the room including an iron and plenty of storage space. We only had a view of the road but it was relaxing in our nest. It was quite a walk from reception to our room and there was no offer to help with our bags - I always thought it was standard practice to porter bags in a hotel. Maybe it was the stairs we had to climb!

The breakfast staff were efficient (always with a smile) although there was a small hiccup on the first day. It appeared our order had been forgotten. However, we waited twenty minutes and we didn't have an issue with that. The second day was much faster. I got the impression that there was some rationing going on - you always had to ask for sauces. After use they were whisked away. Personally I found this irritating if not a small issue. My wife only drinks decaff coffee in the morning. On both days they didn't have any. The first day I could have accepted this but not two days running. Then there was a twist... My youngest son struggles with breakfast but we always make sure he "has" to try other things. He found it hard to eat what was one offer and we asked for a banana. They didn't have any but did offer to get some in for us. So this versus the decaff coffee was an odd scenario.

I suspect (imho) the family room may not be as highly specified or as well looked after as other rooms in the hotel. I think family rooms are often more practical than pretty.

A few small notes: Pool - great if not on the cold side. Bar and lounge - very nice. Gym an spa - we never found them. Standard of food - fair to good.

Finally, what this hotel lacks in decor and detail it makes up with smiles and service. The value was okay and we were made to feel very welcome. I would give it 6/10 for the hotel and 9/10 for the friendly informative staff and I'm still very thankful for our room being made available early.

Room Tip: Negotiate the price of the family room. We didn't because it was Cowes Week.
