This was our sixth visit to Coastguards and, as ever, it was like coming home.
The house is comfortable, very clean and well equipped. It was warm and cosy despite the snow outside. The view to the west from the back of the house and rear garden across the Ventnor rooftops to the sea is fantastic, particularly when the sun is setting. The terrace at the bottom of the garden is great sun trap.
We enjoy the location of Coastguards, with the shops, pubs and restaurants of Ventnor only a few minutes’ walk away. There are plenty of great walks from the house including The Undercliff from Monk’s Bay to Ventnor Esplanade and then on to Steephill Cove, a more energetic walk up St. Boniface Down and a visit to The Devil’s Chimney at The Landslip.
Finally, we can’t finish the review without mentioning Wendy, the housekeeper. Wendy has always made us most welcome. She is on hand to provide help with any problems and is always keen to ensure that we enjoy our visit to Coastguards.
We are looking forward to making our next visit.
We have stayed at Coastguards many times with our family group of three generations. The layout of the house is perfect for a group or families sharing; the spacious rooms over three floors mean you don't feel on top of each other and there is a bathroom on two floors. The house is a home from home, very clean and well kept, the kitchen is well equipped and there are books, dvds, a games console and beach toys to use. We enjoyed several barbecues in the garden, which is a suntrap and has amazing views over Ventnor down to the sea. The fantastic housekeeper lives opposite and is on hand for any queries, advice and recommendations. Location wise the house is perfect with Ventnor town centre a
2 minute walk away and the seafront around 5 minutes. There are many restaurants, cafes, pubs and takeaways in the town, catering for all tastes and budgets. The house is a great base to enjoy the island and for times when you want to leave the car behind, the bus route passes the end of the road. From the house it is easy to join the coastal path and we enjoyed walks to Sandown and Steephill Cove with spectacular views along the way. We will definitely return to Coastguards and this beautiful part of the country.
Perfectly located to all that Ventnor and the surrounding area has to offer with stunning views and great facilities, we will definitely be returning to Coastguards. Perfect for a family getaway or a group of friends.
Ventnor is a lovely town with a lot to see and do so you won't be bored! The house is charming and full of character. It is spacious so there is room to grab some quiet time if you need it and the lower ground floor is a great area for children and/or teenagers to use. The kitchen is fully equipped and has lots of extra touches. All of the bedrooms are tastefully decorated and have comfy beds, so necessary for a good nights sleep. The lounge is well decorated and I loved the 2 sofas! There is a separate dining area here if required. Both the bathrooms are modern and bright with good showers. The garden is well-tended and planned with care with nice bushes and plants. There are good sea views from the garden and the sunsets can be spectacular. This is a lovely area to sit and have meals in the afternoon or evening as the sun goes down. Ventnor (the town) is a 5 minute walk as is the beach with its lovely attractions, including a fresh fish seller. I would recommend this house to anyone and I'm sure we will go back soon.
My husband and I stayed in July 2017 and nothing prepared us for this wonderful house. We rattled around the 3 floors which could comfortably accomodate 8 or more people.
The house was beautifully decorated, furnished and equipped with everything you'd need for a fantastic time.
We look forward to return there in the not too distant future.
