Stayed in this hotel.. Nice hotel however did find hotel room very small with the smallest on suite bathroom I have ever seen and shower curtain and shower area not great either...
Breakfast very nice would not stay based on quality of room I was given would be better of paying less and would more than likely get the same quality!!

Having read reviews before we chose the Belmont we were expecting something extraordinary. The very first thing to point out is this hotel is not for disabled, what with all the steps into the property and stairs once inside. We agree with comments regarding food, cleanliness, Des and Linda. We did have to ask for extra heating in our room for which we were given an electric radiator. I believe the heating for the property must be on a timer. There was no heating in the bathroom which can be a bit of a shock during the night and first thing in the morning, the hot water takes an age to reach temperature and the there is hardly any pressure from the shower. We had booked the Superior room with a sea view, thinking there would be this lovely vista of the sea but the sea view is what you get between the church and the trees, In my opinion the description didn't fulfil our expectations. Another reason for selecting the Belmont was for my wife who likes to use the gym, a gym was mentioned in the amenities so when my wife asked to use it she was told its closed in the winter, perhaps this should have been mentioned in the description of amenities. Although there was a lovely flat screen TV in the room the picture is intermittent which can be quite frustrating when trying to watch a programme and is the fault of the Midhurst TV Mast? according to Des. Some may say I have been a bit picky but to be very honest for what we paid we would not return.

Room Tip: Not for Disabled,

WE have just spent a very good week at the Belmont Hotel Shanklin. Des and Linda are such a warm friendly couple and do everything they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Lots of little extras, like tea and coffe in the lounge with biscuits and mints and sometimes cake, which are free to guests. The Hotel was very comfortable and the food was excellent, we had a evening meal every night and the menu selection was huge and everything we tasted was delicious. We would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to anybody.

Room Tip: I think the best thing to do is to ask for a recommendation when ringing to book.

A warm welcome awaited us at the Belmont; I think this must be the sixth time we have stayed here as the hosts, Des and Lin, do so much to make each holiday so special.

Our favourite room (15) was spotless and very warm with the recent introduction of central heating; thoughtful additions were a complementary bottle of wine and box of chocolates as well as a comprehensive selection of toiletries - including toothbrush and toothpaste as well as binoculars for viewing shipping in the channel to Portsmouth and Southampton viewed from the large bay window.

Optional evening meals are provided at the well-stocked bar and we tucked into an excellent chicken korma on arrival - this saved us from going out for a meal on our first night.

The Belmont is well sited for travel by public transport, we take the train from London, followed by the ferry at Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier head where a connecting train takes us to Shanklin. The fare can all be bought on the same ticket which saves a lot of hassle on the Ferry terminal and, as the whole trip is in the Network South East Area we buy the fares with the 1/3rd discount for travel with the accompanying Family and Friends railcard - current cost of card £28.00. The hotel is only a 10 minute level walk from the station and if it rains, there are always plenty of taxis waiting to take you for a small fare. Although the whole trip from London only takes just under 3 hours, you really feel as though you have travelled to somewhere exotic; almost as though you are abroad without really being abroad.

Des and Lin are local to the Island and happily provide you with all sorts of useful information about the island; places to visit and opening times.

The breakfasts are superb, a great range of menus are provided and the Belmont Grill is recommended with hash browns, black pudding, mushrooms, tomato and baked beans in addition to the egg, bacon and sausage. Everything is freshly cooked and, as we prefer them poached, we always have a poached egg. Coffee is thoughtfully served in a cafetiere and there is an extensive selection of breads, cereals, chilled fruit juice (including homemade smoothies) a selection of milks and continental breakfasts. You can even have hot porridge.

A lovely lounge with huge TV and complementary tea/coffee and biscuits and board games/library is available for guests who prefer not to stay in their rooms and there is a desk with computer and free internet - saves you bringing a heavy laptop or tablet to the hotel.

Shanklin is an excellent transport hub for the island and you can travel by bus to all four corners of the Island in next to no time. A seven day rover ticket is good value at £24.00 and over 60s can travel for free with a Freedom Pass. One of our favourite routes is the number 12 from Newport to Freshwater Bay - the best bus journey in the British Isles with astonishing views of the huge white cliffs before you descend into the picturesque Bay.

We cannot wait to return for another lovely break at this gem of a hotel in November 2013.

Great weekend,
Got a good deal by going direct and nice large room resulted with a four poster and a view of the garden.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Ate in the hotel for one of the nights and despite being out of season ,February, the food was good and plentiful.

Good choice and breakfast and again very plentiful.

Would recommend and would use again if on the Island

My wife and I just returned from the Isle of Wight, when we stayed at the Belmont. The property is period, high cielings and spaciouse rooms, rooms warm and well furnished, the resort centre only a ten minute walk, Des and his gorgeous wife the perfect hosts, very friendly and hard working, The restuarant facilities and food excellent. We highly recomend this premiss, John & Linda C, Brighton.

Room Tip: If you enjoy seafood then Morgans in the high street a must.
