Small 29 room hotel near the beach. Never expected quality what we got. We stayed on 8-01-13 for one night starting from reception till check out everything was overwhelming. Squash court , Pool table in door & out door swimming pool everything was simply superb. It's worth for what we paid .

First I must say that I have not read any of the reviews for this Hotel for the Christmas Break. On arrival we were greeted by a very nice young lady who took us to our rooms(nos. 26 & 27). We were quite early arriving but we were able to check in and then avail ourselves of a pleasant afternoon tea. Our rooms were overlooking the sea(it is well worth the supplement) quite spacious and very clean. The furniture was rather old but serviceable and I think that this must be the first time that we have had full length mirror with plenty of illumination, a dressing table with mirror and light above it and sufficent power plugs for our use. The bathroom was a little 'tired' and could do with being on a refurbish list, but there was plenty of hot water and a very strong shower. To have such a great choice of food for festive occasions is a great bonus as many Hotels use a set menu. Our Christmas lunch started at 1p.m. and we were still sitting at the table at 3.45p.m. The staff were top class, nothing was too much for them and helped to make this a successful break. On Boxing Day, a 'Birds of Prey' display was scheduled for the gardens, weather permitting, but it rained, not daunted the display took place in the lounge and proved very interesting and informative. On Tuesday morning, all good things come to an end, our check-out was quick and efficent. Everyone at Luccombe Hall deserves a well deserved vote of thanks for ensuring Christmas 2012 passed smoothly.

Room Tip: select a sea facing room

My break at the Luccome Hall hotel was a short break of three nights of which new years eve was included. The hotel is situated on the cliff top overlooking Shanklin, views from the hotel and the gardens are lovely.A short stroll through what would be lovely gardens during the summer months brings you to steps taking you down the cliff directly onto the beach at Shanklin. From the front door it is approx a five to ten minute walk along the road and a cut through to the old town of Shanklin.Briliant in summer months when parking in Shanklin old town could be a nightmare. There is parking at the Hotel, although can get filled up quickly with other residents, but hotel in quiet residential area so there is still parking on the road.
Room was a good size, clean and comfortable, view left alot to be desired( room 9,Overlooking bins and externsion roof tops) although we were not too bothered by this as we had our dog with us( They had moved us from the Luccome manor,as that had closed for the winter months) and we dont expect the best rooms in the hotel.
Most of the reception staff were friendly and helpful,as were the waiting staff in the reastaurant, however we did find that the restaurant seemed disorganised,as one morning the chef was late for work,so we waited for nearly an hour for the cooked breakfast(Breakfast starts at 8.00pm)The waiting staff did apologise for the wait, but did not seem in any rush to take our orders for when the chef commenced work or to offer more coffee etc. They just looked at us while they stood around. On all three mornings staff were still setting up as we walked into breakfast, never had this before in a hotel, mostly staff are waiting to serve when you arrive. There appeared to be no rush.During the evening meal on new years eve,i overheard one paying customer complain that the food was taking too long to come out,the reply. from the waiter was"Your getting fed arn't you".Having said all that the food was excellent when it arrved, choice was varied and food allways hot.
One very last downside to this hotel is the bar and drinks served. My husband and other gentleman were not happy as no draught beer on sale from the bar,and as a wine drinker i found some of the wine not of the nicest quality, you are able to get drinks from the bar during the day as reception staff will serve you.We were more in need of hot drinks in the afternoon which again unfortunatly all on offer was tea, coffee and very, very watery hot chocolate. When we asked if it was possible to have biscuits or cake with our coffee one afternoon we were told,we could but only if there was enough left over,as the chef would only have made enoough for new arrivals to the hotel that afternoon,........what about the rest of us,who were paying for a room and also prepared to pay for said biscuits or cakes?????
ok hotel, but let down by choice of beverages and slow, and some unprofessional waiting staff.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 9,comfortable but views not good, would imagine if your sea facing veiws would be g...

I come to this hotel every year at least once, as well as all the other hotels in the group. I cannot fault them for making the best of what they have. OK, so the internet is slow but its free and it works. The decor isn't modern, but its clean and in fitting with the building. The rooms are spacious and well equipt, the grounds are lovely with a putting green, outdoor pool and lucious lawns with seating areas. You have full use of the pools both indoor and out, the hot tub and sauna, squash court and games room with a children's area. You can use the facilities of luccombe manor next door if you want to. The breakfasts are great with plenty of choice and the 4 course evening meals are to die for. If you book for the specials (valentines, christmas, twixmas or new year) not only do you get great deals on the price, they lay on extra buffets, afternoon teas, glasses of bubbly and great entertainment - even prize winning competitions to win free holidays at shanklin villas. The staff are enthusiastic and a joy to have around. James makes mealtimes stress less and easygoing with high levels of proffesionalism, Dave the bar manager not only knows his stuff, but has great knowledge of the island. Kelly and Claire are the best, sorting everything out and making sure your stay is the best experience you could have. I cannot fault any of the breaks I have had here, or at luccombe manor or melville hall. You would be silly not to try it here if you like a nice easy stress free holiday!

Room Tip: If you have any special requirements let the staff know, they will do their best to accommodate your...

Our trip was on a Groupon voucher. Staff were very friendly. The room and its conditions were ok. WiFi internet connection was a little slow but did work. Overall we thought it was good value considering other facilities such as a lovely garden outside with a great view over the sea, as well as an indoor and outdoor pool, squash courts, games room and playing area for kids. Its all very family-oriented, which we thought was also very nice. There were a real mix of visitors from all different countries, when we there.

I really loved my stay at your hotel. The receptionist was very friendly, informative and helpful. The hotel room was lovely! I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast and the service was excellent. The waiter who served me was friendly, humourous and effecient. I really don't have a negative word to say. Thank you very much!

Room Tip: Our room was very quiet. The beds were comfortable as well.

We took the advantage of a special offer and were not disappointed. The "View with a Hotel" aptly describes its situatuion on the cliff top overlooking the gardens and the sea in a nice quiet area. The hotel was well appointed, and comfortly furnished with a games room and a very nice indoor pool Our room (no.12) was spotlessly clean and well equipped with all the facilities we needed,The reception staff were very welcoming.and the dining room staff attentive. The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and filling to the extent we did not require lunch.
Our weekend stay was excellent value and we shall certainly use the hotel again when visiting family on the island.
