Well is as far as we are concerned. We found The Steamer on day 5 of our dreadful time on the Isle of Wight. We booked for a total of 18 nights camping in a tent in the town of Apse Heath. The weather was awful, surpassed only by the inadequate drainage on the site. It was no pleasure at all remaining on the site so we sought out a haven to while away the holiday. That haven was The Steamer Inn.

From the moment we set foot in the place every member of staff was friendly, courteous and professional. When there was no serving to be done they were cleaning. They immediately took to our dog, Rowley, and made him as welcome as us. The food is both reasonably priced, fresh and is given in huge quantities. I believe that if they removed a third off the plate there would still be plenty.

We met Lee, the manager, towards the end of our stay and it's easy to see why the staff are like they are. His demeanour and image are that of the consummate professional and even he succumbed to the charms of our dancing Maltese terrier.

All in all, would we visit again? If we ever venture on to the Isle of Wight ever again The Steamer would certainly be number 1 on our re-visit list, so much so, that we are even thinking of coming back to spend a week at The Steamer later in the year. You can never get enough of a good thing.

Thanks to Lee and all his staff, at least we have one good memory of our first trip to the I.O.W.

Simon & Christine Todd + Rowley the dancing Maltese.

We stayed at the steamer in for two nights in the middle of June and I can quite honestly say we couldn't have been looked after any better. There were 15 of us on a cycling weekend and nothing was too much trouble, from the arrival, when we needed to get 15 bikes through into the back (no easy feat) to departure. The staff were welcoming and approachable and worked well as a team. The menu was varied and good, so good we decided to eat there both nights and the breakfast is exceptionally good. we were even offered a jug of iced water to take up to our rooms at night. Its not a posh, fancy hotel but its clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. Our only complaint would be the showers in the sea view rooms were not great as they are attached to the bath and quite difficult to use, however the bathrooms are apparently due to be refurbished this year.I would like to say a special thank you to Anthony who we dealt when we booked and was there when we arrived, he is a credit to the Hotel and its owners.

Rooms are just what you need, flat screen, clean bedding, tea and coffee, fresh towels...lots of pillows.... Sea view rooms are the business. Food is mostly fresh and hit the spot every time. Breakfast is a proper English affair, but you can tailor it to your taste. Coffee and OJ flow and the papers are there every morning. It's a real free house with quite rooms clean and functional... The restaurant and bar area is warm in the cold but airy in the warm with lots of nautical bits and bobs.... The venue next door has gone all iPad led crazy and lost the local feel... On summing up the staff are relaxed but attentive... Friendly but not over the top.... I can't stand those people that are so desperate to please they kill the hole experience. I loved it so much I ended up staying a week... I only went for the night... Wifi is good for phones but laptops not... But the boss said he was going to sort it... Give it a go value for money....
