“Enjoyable stay, good location for beach.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

We stayed at the Queensmead for six nights end of July. The hotel is close to the beach, just a minute's walk and a few minutes walk the other way takes you into Shanklin town centre. We had Room 23 which was at the rear of the hotel, we enjoyed sunsets from our room every evening! Room all amenities including miniature toiletries, freshly laundered towels daily, no hair drier but ask at Reception for one which is yours for the duration of your stay. Shower weak spray and difficult to retain constant temperature. Mealtimes were set times - breakfast 0830 hours and evening meal 1830 hours - food excellent! Breakfast choices include kippers and haddock! Evening meals three-courses, excellent menu to choose from and all home-cooked, particularly enjoyed fish cake starters, salmon fillet in prawn/lobster sauce and lemon/lime cheesecake.
We enjoyed good weather for the duration of our stay, so much so we were able to take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool located at the rear of the hotel and the surrounding patio area provided a lovely sun-trap.
The Bar opens at 1800 hours, nice to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner. Bottles of wine for your table averaged £13.00 per bottle.
Daily newspapers available at Reception each morning.
We had an early start on departure day but Barry and staff provided full breakfasts at 0600 hours enabling us to be on our coach back to the ferry port in good time waved off with our pre-ordered packed lunches!
Thanks to Barry and all staff from waiters/waitresses to the cleaning girls, very enjoyable stay!

I do not know where to begin with this hotel. The room was very small, the shower was either too hot or too cold. It was the old fashioned mixer taps and if. anyone else was drawing water you couldn't regulate it..hence either cold shower or scalding water.
We had to buy water for the dinner table from the bar apparently it was not good to drink from the tap.
The food was spoiled by presentation and vast amounts, on asking for smaller portions there was no difference.
I was with a coach party and expected more than this as I have been on numerous trips and never ever had to write a bad review.

first visit to the Queensmead. warm and friendly welcome from Barry and staff. clean and comfortable rooms. excellent service at mealtimes. wide choice of excellently cooked and prepared food and plenty of it. well stocked bar at reasonable prices. Live entertainment. All the staff warm and friendly and nothing too much trouble for them. we strongly recommend this hotel if you stay at Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.

Could not fault the attention and service provided by the joint owners on arrival and during our stay. Spotlessly clean rooms and excellent food. Entertainment is was provided on three nights during our stay and was enjoyed by all present. The hotel is very popular with coach parties but do not let that be a hindrance to staying there. Would go back again without question.

Room Tip: The hotel is on a hillside and choice of rooms is not material

My second stay at the Queensmead and it did not dissapoint. Lovely room, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Food excellent, beautifully cooked and presented, and so much of it! Proprietors and staff polite and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Looking forward to my next visit.

Room Tip: No lift in this hotel so a ground floor is preferable for less able bodied. However staff are aways...
