We booked a weekend away for our anniversary and was surprised on arrival with a bottle of wine waiting in our room.
The new owners were friendly and very welcoming, our room was very comfortable, on the second floor with beautiful views over Sandown Bay. The room was decorated in neutral tones with contrasting curtains, throw and cushions, extremely pleasant and clean.
We enjoyed the breakfasts starting with a choice of fruit, cereals and juices followed by our choice of cooked breakfast with the most delicious scrambled egg. I had no problem with choosing the cooked items the evening before.
The walk into Shanklin on the cliff top path is 10-15 minutes away and is quite hilly in part, no problem if you are fit and enjoy walking, alternatively Sandown is 10-15 minutes in the opposite direction and the coastal path takes you through a nice park area. Alternatively you could go down the steps by Blueberry cafe which brings you onto the beach and walk into Shanklin or Sandown via the promenade.
All in all we had a lovely relaxing weekend, and have booked to return later in August.

Room Tip: Views from the second floor are superb.

We had a really good 2 night stay at The Miclaran last weekend. After a warm welcome we were shown to our double room on the first floor with lovely sea view.

Breakfasts were really good with fruit, cereal, yoghurt, cooked breakfast, toast, juices and tea and coffee available.

The hotel is situated on the cliff overlooking the sea, with a lovely garden and sea views. If you go out the back gate and turn left you can walk all the way to Sandown, or if you turn right then you can get to the beachfront of Shanklin in about 10 minutes.

There are about 8 parking spaces for the B&B plus parking available in the road, and it is only a couple of minutes’ drive into Shanklin so a really good location. The new owners were very friendly and I'd definitely recommend this B&B.

We look forward to returning again next year!

Room Tip: All of the double rooms have a sea view.

Having read all the glowing reviews, my expectations were high, but it was not for me. The guest house is in a beautiful location right on the cliff path, but it is a long walk into either Shanklin or Sandown.
The owners were very nice, friendly and welcoming. However the accommodation was very disappointing, our room was very small with a very high small window, unless you are stood up you cannot see the beautiful view. The furnishings are very cheap and dated, the bed was very uncomfortable, poor quality mattress. The beds had a very strange nylon cover, it would have looked much nicer with just the white bed linen.

Another disappointing thing is the breakfast arrangements, breakfast is served between 0830-0915 and you have to decide what you want from the very basic menu the night before??? We are very early risers and like to start the day early, this was not possible here. It is a very dated guest house that needs updating,,it has real potential with the lovely owners and the beautiful views.

Great views , very well kept and airy sea view rooms. The coastal path backs onto the garden if your hiking and looking for a suitable night stop en route around the island.
Its actually quite a bit further out from either shanklin or sandown and the walk back from either is reasonably demanding with inclines and rises, more so if you return from the beach. The website dances past the distances in its description , so if your elderly or have walking issues you may need to rely on your own transport or a taxi following your day or evening out. That said it was my choice and I simply didn't research the actual distances or hilly ground that would need to be covered.
In summary , lovely peaceful and fresh property with impressive views. A little too far away from anything and a slightly restricted and regimented method for the timing and delivery of breakfast.

Visited The Miclaran last week, after a gap of 5 years. Were delighted to find the same high quality of accommodation and service. Position, room, breakfast, parking all excellent. Were highly impressed by the efficient booking of the ferry, at a discounted rate, for us. Well done the Izzards, and best of luck for the future -- you deserve it!

I booked this B&B for a weekend for the family to celebrate my mother's 86th birthday. Sue and Alan, the new owners, made us very welcome, and we very much enjoyed sitting in the attractive sea-facing garden. They had put birthday roses in her room for her arrival and they produced an ice bucket of ice when I said I had bought champagne to celebrate. The rooms were sunny and spotlessly clean with a lovely sea view. And the breakfasts were excellent - really set us up for the day - with options to please everyone - a full selection of cereals, yoghourts, and there was a Marmite available for the toast. The full English was excellent - and we had one vegetarian who was pleased to find vegetarian sausages available, plus flowing tea and coffee.

There was plenty of parking, too, both off road and also in the street; the garden backs onto a cliff path which is a lovely way of walking into Shanklin with views as you go. It took under half an hour to get here from the Fishbourne ferry which they had also booked for us.

In summary we were very pleased with our choice and would not hestitate to recommend to others .

Room Tip: I think that they said all but 1 room (a single) have sea views; as there are no roads between the M...

The Miclaran is a clean and well presented B&B with superb sea views. The hosts are very friendly - nothing too much trouble.
Convenient location with easy access to cliff path and 2 minutes from the major bus route. If you are taking your own car there is ample off road parking.
The breakfast was hearty and delicious.
If you are considering a trip to the Isle of Wight we would recommend the Miclaran.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 14 which was on the top floor. Sea views were amazing and well worth the stairs!!
