“lovely b&b”
Reviewed August 8, 2014

This is the best b&b we have stayed in during our visits to the isle of wight, Made to feel very welcome by Phil, our room was clean & spacious, very comfortable bed ensuring a good night's sleep. Breakfast was cooked to perfection and was plentiful, good idea getting you to fill out a menu card the day before. No problem getting car parking space. Position of b&b was great, less than 5mins to cliff top where you could walk along coastal path, either to shanklin or sandown. Karl is a very good artist and also has some nice pieces of hand-made jewellery which you can purchase at very reasonable prices. Will definitely stay here on our next visit to the I.O.W.

Room Tip: We had room 3 which overlooked the lovely back garden

Spent 2 nights in Shanklin at the Hazelwood, first visit was last September (2013). Phil and Karl always so welcoming and offer a delicious cooked breakfast, with lighter options. Great value B&B and offer recommendations about places to visit and eat within Shanklin and around the Island. Many great restaurants/pubs/cafes within walking distance, along with the beach and the quaint old village and Shanklin Chine. Rooms are very comfortable with beautiful views of the town. Great location for all the Isle of Wight has to offer, and will definitely return. Dan & Paul, Warrington.

We have just returned from a break at the "THE HAZELWOOD" in Shanklin. Its location was great for all attractions around the island. easy to get to, the room was clean and fresh with tremendous views. the bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet at night so we had a good sleep. The breakfast was lovely every morning, Phil always very pleasant, hospitable and friendly. There were a lot of fine pieces of art on show done by Karl ,also very nice line drawings which were all very impressive. This was the best guest house we have stayed at and we would recommend this guest house to anyone visiting the isle of Wight

Room Tip: We had room 5 overlooking the front garden and had a good overall view of Shanklin

Would recommend this little guest house in Shanklin, It's location is great with only a 2 minute walk to beautiful clifftop views and easy walking distance of the main Shanklin town centre with restaurants, bar's the chine and the seafront. There was plenty of free parking which was excellent as some places on the island are expense to park in. The room, on a clear day, had a distant view of the sea and was a nice size with en-suite and a surprisingly good shower. Only downside was that guests on the landing were very loud. Breakfast was very nice, if a little restrictive time wise only being half an hour from 8.30, which for a couple on holiday we thought was a little early. But for the price we could have no complaints about the room facilities. Phil and Karl were lovely hosts and made us feel welcome by greeting us in the garden on what was a lovely sunny day. They gave us advice on the best places to eat and what to do on the island. All in all a nice little find

Room Tip: Anything at the front of the house

Had a very warm welcome from host Phil, nice peaceful location no traffic noise at all. We had a front facing room and, although in the distance there is a sea view. Breakfast was EXCELLENT, very impressed with that. Had a nice surprise one morning, a muffin with a birthday candle ( great touch that) which set the day off just great. Dining in Shanklin itself only a 15/20 min walk away, some nice eating houses. Would recommend the Hazelwood all day long, a great place to stay.

We had a warm welcome and a pleasant 3 day stay. Room clean and tidy. Breakfasts very good. Loved the homemade muffins and the smoked salmon special. Great location - near to the town, the railway station and the bus stops. Nice quiet road and although we didn't drive should be fine for parking. All rooms have TV and access to Wi-Fi which was not on the web site so it was nice to have. Many thanks Phil and Karl.
