Just got back from a five day holiday at the Shanklin. The staff were excellent and the food was good especially the breakfast. We paid extra for a sea view but the balcony was filthy, wallpaper was off the wall the ceiling was hanging down and there were stains all over the carpet,we are quite slim fortuneatly or otherwise we wouldnt have been able to get in the en suite which should be renamed cupboard. The beds were spotless though. I understand they are redecorating but I think they should have shut the hotel until it was finished, there was a lot of guests complaining.

me and my wife stayed in september the room was fantastic staff were very nice and polite .the only thing that let it down was the food we did not expect 5star get what you pay for.some of it was quite bad ,the hotel is not as bad as some of the reviews would suggest .would stay again no problem

We chose this hotel for its location and were not disappointed as it's literally across the road from the beach (ideal for the fantastic weather we had!) Our room didn't exactly have the 'sea view' we had requested (it looked out onto the car park/cliff) but it was a big family room which was huge well eqippped and kept very clean. Very small bathroom with walk in shower which was ok as long as you didn't drop the soap! We weren't keen on having to choose our evening meal at breakfast but there was pleanty of choice. Food wasn't as bad as some people were saying-perhaps a bit bland at times with inappropriate veg which were often overcooked (sorry but you cannot serve broccolli and corn with fish & chips!). Starters and desserts were pretty good however. The staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful nd all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our week there and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: You can pay extra for sea view & balcony

I have read the review regarding(Alanshep) 12)and totally disagree with Some of there comments, I did not personally see anybody leave there food we had plenty of choices of food which was very good and plentiful .On or two comments were made on the downward journey that made one think what kind of Hotel this was.
The rooms did need updating bit this was taking place,The room was clean tidy and was cleaned every day. Some people expect to pay £200.00. and get a top Class Hotel. The food was good plenty of choice and the staff were pleasant and helpfull.I would not hesitate in staying at this hotel again.

We went to this hotel on 25th August 2012 for 8 days with a coach company. First of all, our room was so tiny, it was claustrophobic. We complained and we were given one slightly better. We were told by the coach driver not to drink the water in the hotel but to buy bottled water, after we had already done so. There was renovation work being carried out and there was hammering and banging from 07.00 to 20.00 every night. Some meals were very poor and some were terrible. The head waiter was like a "Gestapo" officer and would not allow anyone into the dining area before the exact time even if they were late in opening up. The girl who served our table however, was very nice and pleasant. The lounge area had been converted to an Irish Bar and all the teenagers were in every night, taking over the place. It certainly was no hotel for elderly people. We would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: The room we had was so hot in this hotel it was difficult to get a sleep.

Recently returned from a 5 day break with National Holidays and stayed at the Shanklin Bay Hotel.
I have mixed feelings about this hotel and its dated bedroom with its very small en suite and very tiny shower. The hotel is going through a major re furbishment and I think we were just unlucky not to get a re decorated room.
The hotel bedrooms do have a nice up to date TV and tea/coffee but ladies there is on hair dryer.
The hotel restaurant is clean, the food adequate for a 3* hotel, some people did complain but most enjoyed their meals which were served hot and very quickly by very friendly efficient staff. I say if you want 5* meals go to a 5* hotel.
A very nice Irish bar is connected to the hotel who provides a discount happy hour for hotel residents.
would I go back? yeah probably its perfectly located over the road from the beach and very close to all the amenities.
