Harvest Moon Holidays
Reviewed September 23, 2012

We (2 adults and 2 kids aged 7 and 4) stayed here in August for a week as part of our summer holiday.

The tents are large and substantial with a hot shower and flushing toilet at the back. The kids loved the cupboard bed and the bunk bed (top bunk of course). The beds were warm and comfortable. The wood burner could be a bit of a pain at times as some of the wood was damp. We heeded previous reviews and came equipped with a gas stove and small kettle for making hot drinks in the morning.

The location was fantstic with the 7 tents around a large field where the kids could play etc. The almost deserted sandy beach was a 2 minutes walk away. The beach was sandy with a very gentle gradient making it safe for kids to paddle in.There were trails to go walking and biking from the campsite. There was plenty to do on site and in the local area - the kids went horse riding at the nearby stables and we spent a wet afternoon at the cinema in Leith. Once our kids had made friends they didn't want to leave the site.

It was a little pricey but the setup and location is hard to beat

This is a fantastic holiday for everyone whether you have kids or not, it's a Fantastic place with a lovely warm welcome. We came as a family and had one of our best hols, so much so our children didn't see why they should leave and couldn't just live here. The tents are brilliant, done out very well and we really enjoyed the wood burning stove. It was lovely to have a proper toilet out back with a hot shower after fun days on the gorgeous beach that's right by the tents. It's such a lovely safe place for the kids to play nice and private. We enjoyed visiting the villages near by as the surrounding area is stunning as well. It really was a brilliant holiday and we really hope to go back next year

Getting there is easy and once on the farm itself it is well sign posted just be aware that the roads on the farm are used by tractors etc so can be a bit rough in spots still passable but....
At the site itself you park up and wheelbarrow your stuff to the tents, probably regretting taking too much. The things I would take are as a previous reviewer said a small camping stove to get a fast brew if you want one plus whatever type of handwash you use as you will end up handling animals.
Its not a problem if you forget anything really as there is an honesty shop on site (a boat!)and for a more planned shop Tesco on the outskirts of North Berwick, which is basically out the farm turn right at the main road and follow signs for N.B. about 10-15min.Be aware the post code provided in a previous review for supermarkets via your sat nav can also take you to a much smaller Co-op half a mile down the road.If you want "different" stuff there is info in the boat about local butchers in East Linton etc and there is plenty of artisan stuff in the centre of N.B as well, but parking there can be a bit of a swine.
On the site itself Petra or the girls (all really nice) will talk you through everything and suggest stuff. There is plenty to do on site as has been well covered by previous reviewers, off site there is a useful book in the tents with flyers for museums, parks, castles etc.
My kids had an absolute blast here and loved every bit and the adults had a rather a good time to.

We have just returned from our week glamping and what a wonderful week we had. The location is beautiful, the tents really well eqipped and comfortable. My children loved the animals and it was a fantastic experiance for them helping to look after them, they raced out of the tent every morning to look for the chicken and duck eggs! The beach is beautiful and we spent time on it every day. Petra was very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recomend this site for a relaxing family holiday.

Just returned from a wonderful 3 night Glamping holiday, that was surprisingly relaxing despite being there with my husband and 5 children (3 of our own plus x 2 of their friends!). If your children love feeding and petting a variety of animals and walking and playing on a pristine, beach with massive golden sand dunes then you will love Loch Houses. The "Tents" are very clean and comfortable and Petra was welcoming. We were asked to cancel our booking last September (2011) as we where the only tent not booked in a wedding party, we did this and rebooked for last weekend and as a thank you Michele gave us complimentary hire of a hen, cooking pot and champagne which was a nice touch.
While there two sets of friends visited us and where very impressed with the whole set up and ambience of the site.....a real gem.

When I googled "beach campsite East Lothian" I had no idea I would uncover a gem like this. Like a previous reviewer I wanted to go camping as I thought my 4 yr old would love it. My husband was not so keen. So this seemed like a good compromise. We managed to hit a window of good weather in this dreadful wet summer and it was total bliss. I felt so chilled out after only a few hours. The kids loved collecting driftwood and twigs from the beach to top up our log fire, and the absence of technology for a few days was so relaxing. In the tent we had two families. 3 kids in the back bunk room (double bunk on bottom, single up top) 2 adults in the double room, and two adults in the cupboard bed which was just so cozy but surprisingly spacious. The beach is stunning and for the school holidays was practically deserted. We also took the sledges from the toy store to the beach and sledged down the dunes, then loaded it with twigs and drift wood on the way back (there is a log supply on site though). It poured overnight on the Saturday and the tents were watertight and pretty wind proof.

The site and surrounding woods are just lovely. We didn't leave it all weekend. And the light on the dunes in the early evening breathtaking. We got some great landscape photos.

I wonder if the owners would consider have a separate small area for a restricted number of wild campers to pitch their own tents as the access to the beach is fantastic.

Anyho, I am sitting at my desk wishing I was back there now.

Room Tip: They all look good, although there is one tent near the top of the hill that is closer to the dunes...

Now I love camping but my wife hates it. So a nice set up like at Harvest Moon seemed like a good compromise and it didn't disappoint.

The tents are as set out on the website, but that doesnt capture how warm they feel inside. Very cosy. The tents are set around a lot of farm animals in the center of the paddock which is fun for kids. A very nice atmosphere with the other campers, kids playing about outside with chickens etc.

If you don't like farm animals or have an allergy (particularly chickens) then this isnt for you, but everyone else should enjoy it. Beautiful beach at the back that stretches on an on.

Great log fired stove in the tents. I would advise that you think about bringing a little gas bottle stove (camping store cheapie) for boiling water for a cup of tea to avoid having to fire up the stove and wait for it to get going, but its great fun. Bring a few one pot receipes that you could do an top of a wood fired stove, you'll love it.

This is camping. There are stil animals and the odd bug. Its camping, but not as we've known it.
