“Charming Estate Cottage”

We arrived at the estate past the gatehouse in beautiful sunshine and the Gardeners Cottage exceeded our expectations! Outside the lawns were well maintained and the large hot tub was ready for immediate use. The cottage itself is deceptively spacious with a high end well equipped kitchen. Definately bespoke and complimentary to the rest of the cottage. Decor and furnishings in keeping with the rest of the property. 3 good sized bedrooms with bunk beds downstairs - great for the kids! Relaxing and sociable lounge! Kids had a ball exploring the estate and the owners could not have done any more to make us feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Local beaches fantastic and would definately come back again with friends -- soon!!

“Some serious issues”

Some serious issues

We found the property to be big and spacious and well heated. The estate lends itself to good walks in a nice general location whilst giving very good potential access to beaches and of course there is the proximity to Edinburgh. The property appeared charming and tranquil.

There were however some issues with the management and maintenance of the property which were very disappointing given we had paid over £1700 for a week stay over the Christmas period. There was an issue with the water pressure, it is extremely poor upstairs when using the showers, the plug holes were also very slow to drain. The showers themselves were also mouldy as you can see from the pictures, this was very unpleasant. One of the taps in the downstairs toilet came off in your hand when used. Some of the soft furnishings were also badly stained including a sofa (see picture) and the dinning room chairs. We found dirty used shot glasses in the freezer. The towels provided were thin and cheap.

We had every reason to believe we could access the small loch and use the boat...both were in the promotional information. In order to access this we had to go through a No Entry sign. The boat was waterlogged and chained up. Information on this would have helped. In fact any sort of property information would have been helpful, none was provided in the cottage. Unusually there were also no books, games or pictures in the property which gave it a very empty and characterless feel.

The owners attitude was certainly not constructive when they did visit me and when we asked for help working out how things worked (given the lack of any written information) and the impression we got was that they were purely in it for the money. Customer service and satisfaction was not important to them. As an owner if you rent a cottage out over the Christmas period for a high fee you need to be prepared to provide customer service as you would at any other time of the year, this was sadly missing. We emailed them with our issues after our stay but we received no response which indicated a complete lack of interest. Needless to say we won't be returning and we certainly won't be recommending it to any one, quite the opposite.

Dear TripAdvisor Member
Thank you for your review. We are always happy to receive constructive criticism if it is justified. I think whilst some of the points you raised were valid and some, including the general tone of the review, were completely unfounded. The Cottage is rented for many weeks each year and we receive a great deal of positive feedback about the property. On your arrival the Cottage was dressed for Christmas with a real tree and a garland up the stairs. The Cottage was both cosy and festive. We have now placed a supply of games into the Cottage. We have also replaced one of the sofas in the drawing room and had one of the showers completely redone as evidenced by the attached photos. With regard to using the boat, this is a private boat and is not available for general use as I am sure you can appreciate. You were also in contact with us a few times, both before and during your stay and we didn't hesitate to promptly answer your questions and promptly address any issues raised. The compendium with all the information regarding the Cottage was always in the house and I am sorry that you didn't find this immediately. We value our customer's tremendously and it really matters to us that they have a lovely time and we are sorry that this was not your experience. Susan

“Absolutely gorgeous house for a perfect get-away”

I booked this house last minute for me and my toddler and four friends. it looked good in the pictures, but in real life it was even better! From the moment we drove in to the estate, it was a magical atmosphere and the house was all warm and cosy on our arrival. I say house as its a lot more spacious than you would expect from a cottage. the decor inside is gorgeous and the bedrooms and bathrooms are luxurious. the hot tub is great too and its such a peaceful location. the beaches nearby are gorgeous and dunbar has a surprisingly nice selection of little cafes and shops. We just had a brilliant time!
