“Great coffee and scones”

You must go here for a quaint Irish tea room experience. Lovely bustling atmosphere and great attentive staff. Be sure to try the cinnamon scone. It comes heated with a knob of butter on the top.

“An excellent reputation, well deserved.”

Going to The Bay Tree is like going to a friends house for lunch, a friend who just happens to be a really good cook. I've been going there on and off for a few years now and I've got to know how much care and thought they put into everything they do, the importance of supporting local suppliers and the time spent sourcing the best ingredients.

All this is reflected in the quality of the food and the good will they generate roundabout.

“Busy busy busy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

Have been to The Bay Tree many times in the past and (despite it being busy) it has always been a delightful Saturday morning treat!! however, Today we were left v disappointed.

After arriving we grabbed and seat and waited to be served, and waited, and waited. When we finally got to order we were informed (a bit grumpily) that a lot of people had jus walked in before us which it why it took a while to be served. No problem, it happens in a walk in type cafe/restaurant - and no much can be done about this by the staff!! While ordering we were told that the food might take a bit to come as it was v busy - again not an issue as the food is delicious and is worth the wait. When the food arrived, we had been waiting 45 mins from when we sat down until the food arrived - which is a bit excessive in my opinion for breakfast.

As already mentioned - the food is normally fantastic which is why we didn't mind too much at the time. However, when my meal arrived (a stack) the potato bread was undercooked (cold and doughy in the middle and pale one the outside) and my egg was hard, had fallen apart and looked like it had been thrown on top (folded over itself instead if set flat on top) .

Any other time I would have mentioned this when I received my meal to allow it to be corrected or to make the staff aware, but we had waited so long for our food we couldn't afford to wait for another to be cooked ( we had a wedding to attend and the on street parking only lasts an hour).

We actually ended up paying while some of the party was still eating because we didn't want a parking ticket (I know the bay tree is not responsible for the on street parking but we had waited 45mins for food).

In general the staff are usually v pleasant and the service is usually quick but in this case we were left disappointed by the wait combined with food that was not up to the usual standard.

I would like to add that on the way in /out of the bay tree we encountered a lot of families with buggies that had problems getting in and out because of the sign in the porch area/doorway!

“A little disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

Sorry to find this lovely little restaurant not quite the little gem that it was. It's famous for its cinnamon scones and I would have traveled miles for them, but sadly the last couple of times I have had them they were not nearly as good as they used to be. There is not nearly so much of the sticky syrup that was so yummy that it just made the scone delicious. Still worth going for some of the other things on the menu. The crustade is delicious.
I think the lady in charge here needs to push a bit harder to achieve a higher standard.

“Lovely little restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

Tucked away in a pretty lane. The food is very good and the cinnamon scones are just out of this world and you can buy their food to take away too. The staff are very nice and helpful and friendly. It's a really nice place in a town which has many good eateries and the Bay Tree easily competes.
