Owner description: Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is a conservation and education charity located in South Devon. With around 2,500 animals, we have more species than anyone else in the South West. These include: crocodiles, snakes, lions, tigers, giraffes, elephant, rhinos, lemurs, meerkats, orang-utans... the list is endless! We also have indoor play areas, the Jungle Express train and a lakeside restaurant. If you wish, we also offer special feeding experiences with certain animals, e.g. rhinos, giraffes, giant tortoises, etc. Paignton Zoo is a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA).

Visited the zoo with my husband and 2 year old son, he loved it! The staff were lovely and the selection of animals was great. If visiting Devon on holiday it's definatley worth a visit.

I went to Paignton Zoo for the first time in over 20 years 2 weeks ago, And really enjoyed it.

It was a boiling hot day during our recent heatwave [Which kinda helped, kinda didn't]. Helped as in it was nice to walk around without brollys and coats but didn't due the the head and some animals, quite rightly didn't want to come out. But who can blame them? We're hot enough but most if not all of them have big fur coats.

Although saying this we did see quite a few animals, Pelicans, Flamingos, Elephants, Giraffes, Monkeys, Crocodiles & Lions to name but a few.

The entrance price was very reasonable. You can gift aid your price which helps go towards the upkeep of the animals and zoo. Although you do have to pay a little bit extra. {Maybe if you didn't have to more people would do this, I work for a charity/museum and we don't charge extra, it really does help}

It's a lot of walking to do however so if you have anybody with mobility issues then maybe this isn't the place for you.

Would definitely go again!

The animals are kept in such amazing environments - not a cage to be seen. Reasonably priced food and drinks and lots for kids etc.

Having visited there with my 2 year old daughter today, there was lots to see and do, So much so that we didn't see everything during the time we were there. We are planning to return in the near future!!! There is a lot of walking involved back knowing the variety of animals that you see made it worthwhile. The majority of animals were active today as it wasn't too hot. We got to see a cheetah feeding which was great, but didn't get to see any shows or talks as they are only at certain times of the day and don't appear to be widely advertised. This said we weren't too disappointed.

Driving to the zoo you wouldn't believe it is tucked away in this town. Even down to the very last second when the round about peels off to the right to morrisons the supermarket and left to the zoo.

We have been to many zoos in and around the north of England, Edinburgh, Blackpool and Chester (the latter 2 when I was a kid), so I was expecting the usual format. Animals in cages, not too much space but just enough and a quick walk round. Paignton zoo is none of these. Yes animals are in cages but they have masses of space to roam and do their thing.

My little girl is obsessed with birds and horses, so it took us a while to go through the bird enclosure. Everywhere she looked there where birds to shout "down" at with a big beaming grin on her face. They roamed free so you could get as close as they wanted.

My favourite bit was the elephants and giraffes. Stunning creatures and they even had young with them. I managed to get some really close up pictures of them which my daughter always flicks to on my ipad since the visit.

I would recommend taking a picnic with you, the zoo cost £85 for 4 adults and an under 2, this also covered a visit to the living coast park in Torquay which is fairly reasonable but food looked to be a little expensive.

If your in south Devon n a trip make sure the zoo is n your todo list.
