Owner description: The Palace Theatre is a true community theatre for the English Riviera, set in the heart of Paignton , and is the oldest working theatre in Torbay, constructed back in 1890. It is owned and run by Torbay Council. The theatre has a seating capacity of 380. It has undergone a major refurbishment and it looks fantastic. Tickets for the Palace Theatre can be purchased in person from the Palace Theatre, or by phoning the Box office on: 01803 665800, or tickets can be purchased by going to any local Tourist Information Centre.

Have enjoyed many shows here, particularly those by the Bijou Theatre Theatre Productions, Paignton Operatic & Dramatic Society and Paignton Pantomime Productions, all great amateur groups of a high standard which it's great to support.. Also some good professional shows, including tribute bands. Refurbished a few years ago and quiet comfortable now with a cosy bar.

We've taken our two small granddaughters to the pantomimes over the last couple of years and they love it. The theatre is not too big to be intimidating and keeps the kids in contact with the performers, as it should be. Also, not too much of a problem if they need a comfort break. Parking can be a bit difficult, so driver should drop off passengers and leave enough time to park and walk. Staff very friendly here. There could be a better bar facility to cope with the interval.

I have been visiting the Palace Theatre for years, and enjoyed many of the shows put on there, the Bijou Theatre Productions often being a highlight. The building is quite old and was becoming a little run-down, but I feel since it was refurbished it has lost some of it's charm. I particularly used to enjoy sitting on the balcony, which has now been removed. The inside looks slightly reminiscent of a school hall now. That said the quality of the productions is as good as it has ever been. I would also criticise the ice cream prices/quality; they used to be made locally in Chagford but now are made in Cornwall, and I also feel that the concession ticket prices aren't very generously discounted, but it is still something good and different to do in Paignton.
