“Extraordinary Service and an Extraordinary Price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

The snow was coming down and the Bus Station at Telford was just closing down. The taxi driver said "This is my last trip, I'm not going to risk a bump." It was 9.30am on Friday 18th January 2013 and my wife and I had booked with GB Tours for a Cosy Break at The Palace Hotel, Paignton. "We have paid so we are going - if the Coach turns up." It did. A few hours later we arrived at The Palace. Overlooking the sea with a large garden to the front it was indeed impressive.

Now coach trips sometimes get a bit of an inferior service - not a bit here. From the moment our bags were taken to our rooms to the moment we had our bags returned to the coach, 4 days later, we were treated so well by all the staff. The room was warm and comfortable (no sea view as recommended by others) but it is the Winter so who cares.

Breakfasts were superb - a buffet style start with juice and cereal then waiter service for your choice of Full English, fish or any combination.

Dinner - 5 course Silver Service. Very good choice of starters and mains all of which were of high standard.

The Bar and seating areas are well presented with real fires and lovely architecture. Also the Swimming Pool and fitness area was available for use.

The Hotel caters for all groups and I would say that they maintain their high standards for everyone. It would have been so easy to offer set menus for such large parties or narrow down the seating times but none of that. So anyone considering a Coach tour to Devon - if you see the Palace on the itineray jump at it. The Hotel gives five star service even if they are rated lower.

For solo / couples travelling - you will find that this is the place to stay in Paignton. Don't let the idea that coaches use the place put you off. The communal areas are so large you won't notice.

Room Tip: Sea view / superior rooms may well enhance your stay.

We have been going to The Palace Hotel for a number of years, sometimes two or three times in a year, and it seems to get better and better ... The location is great with a flat walk to the town centre. The hotel is superb, it has been refurbished throughout over the last few years and really is a great and comfortable place to stay. The Restaurant meals really are very plentiful, beautifully cooked and presented with a great menu choice offered. Every staff member is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them ........ Our next visit is hopefully in the Spring .... and we cant wait

Room Tip: Always ask for a room with sea views.

I haven't stayed at this hotel so can't comment on the rooms but have had several lunches in the very attractive Sun Lounge. The food is reasonably priced and well cooked and presented. The sandwiches in particular are freshly made and delicious, and service is friendly and efficient. The public areas of the hotel and the gardens and grounds are maintained to a very high standard. This is certainly the type of hotel I would choose to stay in.

We went to the Palace Hotel Paignton for a four nights Tinsel and Turkey break. The hotel is situated on the promenade an ideal location. The food was excellent, with a varied menu and very well presented. Our waiter was a very nice young man named Dan who was very efficient and pleasant, also in the restaurant was a very nice lady named Sue who was always on hand if you needed anything. The staff on the front desk were always pleasant and very approachable. The bedroom was clean, warm and comfortable. The festive touch was virtually non-existent this applied to the decorations and the entertainment. The room which housed the entertainment was quite cold some of the radiators weren't even connected, not very comfortable. This was the only downside, despite this we still enjoyed our holiday. We booked via Edwards Coach Holidays, our driver's name was Tony, we felt very safe in his charge and he also has a wicked sense of homour. Thank you all at the Palace Hotel. (Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.)

Room Tip: We didn't have a seaview room but we were well satisfied. If we go in summertime we would defina...

Thank you for posting your comments regarding your recent Turkey and Tinsel break at the Palace and may I say that i was pleased to read that overall you enjoyed your stay and in particular the food and the service given by all of the team however I was disapointed to read that you felt that our decorations and entertainment were non existant as we normaly receive only praise for these aspects of the hotel. I hope that the good out weighed the bad and we can look forward to seeing you at the Palace in the future.
