Premier Inn Paignton Seafront (Goodrington Sands) Hotel
Ranked #2 of 17 Hotels in Paignton

Reviewed August 16, 2013

I went here in August for work and chose this hotel for location, as stopping in the ones near motorways are boring to explore.
Hotel room was clean and very comfortable, as most prem inns are. Adjoining hotel was the brewers fayre pub. This was busy, as expected in holiday season, but evening meal was quick and very tasty.
In the morning before I started work, went to breakfast and found it dead, again as expected for holiday type hotel. Lovely cooked breakfast.

This hotel is a little bit of a walk from paignton town, but is literally a stones throw to the beach and the waterpark. A good location for Torbay, quiet though, as its not in the town centre, so overall, would definetley visit this hotel if I have to go down there again for work or pleasure.

Took granddaughter for a two day seaside break. The hotel is right on the beach, the restaurant is really excellent value for money and the room rate wasn't too expensive for this time of the year. Will go again.

We stayed in a family room in early August for 3 nights. Fantastic location for a beach holiday. Splashworld next to hotel, steam railway & bus within 5 minutes of the hotel. Quality of the beach was good. North sands suitable for dogs all year round. Good rock pools at low tide. Water activities on beach. South Sands cafe is very good value & beach goods cheaper than the closest shop. Paignton within walking distance. Sea fishing / crabbing on the promenade (far end). A park just the other side of the hotel with crazy golf, pedalos, bumper boats, playpark & licenced cafe. Meal deal in attached pub whilst good value offers a limited option, especially if vegetarian. Limited other places to eat at night within walking distance; Splashworld open their cafe in the evening for pizza/pasta & the licenced cafe in the park. Quiet at night

Room Tip: Parking: Premier Inn site says limited parking. They in fact share a pay & display car park. Dur...

Generally good hotel - what you expect from a Premier Inn!
Clean & comfortable room - although as a family room the beds were very squished together, so would have benefitted from being abit more spacious.
Great location on the seafront and close to Torquay and Paignton Zoo.
Good dining facilities - evening pub good was ok (fairly cheap & cheerful!) and a nice choice of breakfasts available.
Overall, a good stay.

A great family friendly hotel. From arrival (parking excellent and free for guests) to checkout, the staff were exceptional in their attitude and friendliness. Nothing was too much trouble and there was a genuine air of friendliness and aim to give us the best possible stay. The room was perfect with two small children each having full size single beds. All was as you would expect with a premier inn - clean, simple and everything you could possibly need.
We paid in advance for the breakfast which was well worth paying for. Cooked breakfast was cooked to order so no dried out buffet bacon and eggs, and the cereal, toast and fruit options were fresh and had plenty of choice to satisfy the whole family. Again in the restaurant the staff could not be friendlier. The staff at this hotel were model hospitality staff, in that the most awkward rude guests who happened to be at breakfast when we were there did not dent their polite and courteous manner. If there is a hotel award within Premier Inn - the staff at Goodrington Sands should receive it.

Room Tip: If you are in advance, ask for a sea view.

The Premier Inn is on the beach! An excellent position for those wanting a beach holiday but this is reflected in the price especially in August at over £100 per night! Remember it is room only! It links with the Brewers Fayre restaurant which offers breakfast at what I thought was quite expensive, especially if you have a family of four to feed! The lunch and evening menu is more reasonable. There are cafes nearby on the beach. There is also Splashdown, mainly water slides, which can be expensive for a family at £10 an adult for just two hours! The Goodrington station is also nearby for the Dartmouth Steam Train. If you are willing to pay the price then it is ideal for a beach holiday.

Wow-this hotel was a real find - fantastic!

I'll get my one gripe over with first - we stayed here for 12 nights as the children's main summer holiday but in 12 nights at approx. £80-£105 per night our bed linen was not changed once. This really isn't acceptable esp. at a sandy beach location when we're using sun cream / after sun daily.

The hotel is as close as a hotel could get to a beach-and a lovely beach at that, a shallow bay ideal for kids, swimming, crabbing, rock pooling, people fishing from the promenade, small amusements arcade, beach shop, burgers etc/refreshments/ice cream kiosk / watersports, picturesque beach huts with added bonus of steam train passing by. The left hand beach as you face the sea is used for dogs-their barking didn't disturb us although our room was the closest to that beach, probably because we kept our windows shut for the air-con.

Our family room was huge with 2 double aspect windows looking over the bay in different directions. The view was amazing and great at night when the bay was lit up. The air-con on the hottest night of the year was supreme, like walking into a fridge and very welcome.

The restaurant attached to the hotel (soft play to keep kids happy) served pretty standard food with various offers (look out for Internet vouchers too) and was always busy (a good sign) and seemed able to cope. The buffet night food wasn't great. There was inside and outside seating and a Grill in The Garden in the afternoon (though double the price of the nearby burger kiosk which served good food).
Takeaways-turn left towards Brixham on main road out of hotel for fish&chips / kebab, pizza&Chinese. My husband found a really good Indian takeaway called "Indus" in Paignton.
Supermarkets-about 10min drive to large Morrisons near zoo also Asda/Sainsburys similar distance.

A public park is next to the hotel has boating lake and children's play park (much larger play park 15/20 mins walk over hill-Paignton's great Geopark) and a bar at the far side.

The hotel is next to a free Seashore Centre(we didn't go in as weather was so good we did outdoor activities all week) and the Quaywest outdoor waterpark.

Paignton was a pleasant 20/30min(adult/child) walk over hill to another beach(not as good as Goodrington), more shops&restaurants, fabulous Geopark, pier, crazy golf, seafront rides & amusements.

There are so many things to do within a short distance of the hotel:
Dartmouth Steam Railway train stops at station 5mins from hotel
Quaywest outdoor Waterpark 1min from hotel
Seashore Centre 1min walk
Torbay Leisure Centre 10min walk
Paignton Zoo 10min drive
Paighton Geopark/seafront 20min walk
Brixham harbour / Golden Hinde replica 20min drive
So much to do slightly further afield too or ..... Just the fantastic beach.

Parking may be an issue at the hotel. You are given a car pass to display for the duration of your stay to use in a semi public car park where only 10 spaces are allocated to Premier Inn-the other spaces can be used by guests or anyone else but are not reserved. It may be a problem if you arrive about midday as beach users pay to use the carpark so it can fill up quickly. That said in 12 days we only had problems on one occasion having to wait about 5mins for a space. There is an enormous Council pay carpark a short walk away if desperate.

Will definitely return here - hopefully with clean sheets next time and if they built a kids playground in the garden it would be ideal for us!

Room Tip: Ring in advance to request a sea view
