“Last minute bank holiday girly weekend...very pleasantly surprised!!”
Reviewed August 29, 2011

Four of us decided very last minute to make the most of the bank holiday and trying to find somewhere to stay looked like a nightmare to start with. However, we stumbled over Waterside and managed to book the very last caravan on site (Silver plus). For the great price we paid, I think it would be fair to say we were not expecting great things...a base for us to explore the English Riviera by day and night was all that was required. However, we were all extremely pleasantly surprised by the standard of the caravan and the fabulous customer service we received. From the very first moment we mentioned we were missing some linen, the lovely Adam quickly came to the rescue and was even able to give us a bottle opener (what an error leaving that at home!!)

Venturing into the Yacht Club, it would be fair to say we were a little dubious at what we would find...yet again, we were delighted! The entertainment team were great and special thanks must go to Simon for his inside knowledge of local taxis (good old Harry at TBay may have insulted us but gave us a great price!!!) and places to go out in Torquay!! The team certainly kept us entertained (in fact, we would never normally write any kind of review but they deserve every praise!), Jade and Craig particularly stood out with their strong voices.

It's fair to say this weekend exceeded all of our expectations; the quality of accommodation, the value for money and the standard of the entertainment. Absolutely brilliant...a huge thank you to all the staff at Waterside for adding to the aching faces from our permanent laughter :-)

Room Tip: Silver plus is the way to go!

I have just returned from this caravan park today. I was on a holiday with my Mum, stepfather and brother. First impressions of the park were not great: whilst waiting for the keys to our caravan, we went up to the cliff; beautiful views but overflowing dog mess bins really ruined the ambience. We collected the keys and began to unpack in a caravan that stank of urine- when the receptionist ran up to tell us we had been given the wrong keys. I was furious but thought at least the new van would be better....silly me! In defence of the staff, they were very apologetic about getting it wrong and we were immediately presented with vouchers for the bar and resturant. We repacked the cars, piled the children back in and went to the new van which was gross too. The stairs up to the door were split and the ballustrade held together with gaffer tape. The van smelt damp and was really unclean- in one room we found a filthy baby's bottle and a pair of toddler pyjama botoms, in another a magazine and in my room a blister pack of tablets- I am just glad my own toddler didn't find them first! The toilet smelt of urine, the shower was mouldy and the 'sofa' actually damp to the touch and full of holes. I have never ever stayed in such filthy accommodation. My Mum paid for our holiday as a very special treat so we wanted to make the best of it but the company should hang their heads in shame at the difference between the advertised accommodation and the shocking reality of the dirty, shabby and downright dangerous caravans. Our TV was tiny, the front door had to be kicked to open and the boiler cut out at one point. We had hoped that the kids would have space to play but on arrival a forlorn 10 yr old showed me and my kids that the 'park' was one slide (accessible only by steps) and 2 toddler sit ons! I think the site only thrives because of the amazing hard work from the entertainment staff, who do go all out to create an atmosphere. Park holidays would do well to allow theses talented people to devise entertainment more in keeping with 21st century holidays: they were a great bunch but forced to be horribly 'cheesy' and cliched. The food in the resturant was good and cheap but the bar was very expensive with surly staff who seemed very bored! The location of the park is outstanding, with the steam train appearing throughout the day and the beautiful beach so near but it's a disgrace that they are allowed to charge nigh on a grand a week for such appalling accommodation. The website info about the caravans is quite simply fraudulent and I should think the lovely staff at Waterside Paignton feel embarrassed booking people in. We had a lovely holiday, despite the van: Paignton and the surrounding areas are lovely and everyone we met was friendly and welcoming but the Park Holidays company should hang their heads in shame and sort the accommodation out.

I came on holiday to Waterside Caravan Park with my family and partner in July 2011. As a child, this park was where we came (we even stayed in one of the caravans we previously stayed in!) Since I was younger, the site hasn't changed, apart from the shop, which we found reasonably priced this time round and easy to get to. The seating area near the bar inside the Yacht Club has also changed since our last visit, but adds more room and character to the place instead of it seeming closed off like last time. The pool area we found as relaxing yet fun at the same time just as we did at our last visit, and getting the entertainers and lifeguards to interact with us whilst in the pool was great. The Smugglers Inn still has its character and 'cosy' feel to it, yet has a very friendly, family environment to it which we enjoyed. Above all, and what we felt made the holiday worthwhile was the entertainment team. Each night we had a laugh and got involved with the banter and excitement, sang along to all the songs and just generally enjoyed it. The standard of entertainment this year compared to previous years has hit its ultimate high, with amazing vocals from all the team, but the people who really stood out for us were Sara and Craig. The team were also very chatty and sociable on and off stage which we enjoyed as we got the chance to get to know the people behind the talent, helping us to get to know them better! Overall a really enjoyable holiday and we will be returning for definate in the future! Also, MORE SALLY PLEASE! :)

We had booked this caravan through The Sun £9.50 holidays and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was, ok, it was very basic but it was clean and tidy. The only problem was how cold it was (we did go in October) and having a bronze caravan there was no heating in the bedroom or bathroom so had to cope with a gas fire in the living room!! The staff on check in were very helpful and pleasant. The Cove wasn't far to walk to and the view was absoIutely beautiful, I would go back again.

Ok we had a dog, Ok we had to stay in a bronze caravan because of this, but does it mean, the caravan had to have holes in the floor and walls, that the curtains had to hang from the track, and does it also mean I had to feel the springs though the mattress, and that the whole caravan had a funny smell!!! lucky for us we didn't stay in the van for long, we didn't have a nice view but you didn't have to walk far to find one! The food in the restaurant was awful and over priced, the shop was not too bad, the entertainment was your usual holiday camp stuff, bingo party dances games more party dances etc etc would not ever return

Stayed for 4 nights at the start of July.

This was my first time away in a caravan as I have only been abroad, but I was very surprised. We stayed at in caravan 241 and it was in an excellent location with great views. The park is ideally situated and is central to everything. Only downside is the restaurant which is lik a school canteen, however this is not an issue as you can eat in the caravan or in many nearby restaurants.

Overall it was an excellent holiday especially as we have a 1 year old, I would definately consider buying a caravan now.
