“Terrible : Fleas........................”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2011

Arrived and had to wait to get into caravan, when we finally got in, I can only discribe it as FILTHY. Moved straight away to another caravan.

I will quickly outline the problems here.
1. Sink in bathroom leaked over floor, repaired.
2. At 10.45pm flood on bathroom floor again. Eventually after finding someone, water turned off.
3. Repaired next day.
4. FLEAS. Bitten all over arms and shoulders, reception gave us a can of industrial strength flea spray.
5. Bolier broke, no hot water.
6.We left, and not even a call from the manager at any point, even though requested contact. ( I think that says it all ).

ParkHolidaysUK, General Manager at Waterside Holiday Park - Park Holidays UK, responded to this review, May 3, 2011
I do apologise for the problems Amanda found whilst on holiday with us. We responded quickly to rectify them. We do not normally give out cans of fleas spray but our offer to spray the caravan with the flea spray was declined as she said she would do it herself. Unfortunately we can not tell where fleas came from as no pet has been booked into the caravan since we opened and there has been no reoccurrence of them. My Holiday Sales Manager spoke to her whilst she was here and my Admin Manager phoned her when she wrote to us and a full refund was arranged. I am sorry that she still felt it necessary to write this report.

We stayed the last full week in April which included Good Friday to Easter Sunday and had fantastic sun all week.

We had a bronze 2 bed caravan which was cheep and we got what we payed for, little grubby and tired and was a squeeze for 5 people... but it did the job.

The park has no teen club but the entertainment for the under 11's was ace. 10.30 club for 1 hour, 11.30 'family event' and then 1.30 'family event' (usualy a quiz). The kids did anything from decorating cups, playing rounders, treasure hunt - plenty to keep then happy. Park characrters (rabit and squirrel) were often out and joining in. Outdoor pool was clean and we used that ever day.

Through a tunnel there were a couple of secluded cove beaches but they were a mission to get to, steep walk down some steps but worth it. Good location for Torquay and other key areas.

Night time entertainment was good, kids games at 6, bingo at 7.45 (£2k jackpoint one evening!) and kids are taken to one side to do art and craft during bingo. Various games/quizes to 9.00 ish and then a music show. Ents team are good and friendly.

Special events over easter weekend which the kids loved, we will be going back next year. Music was audable in caravan but, we were too tired for this to stop us sleeping!

Best holiday ever - 7 year old daughter cried on way home as she was missing 'Loopy' the rabbit.

We're regulars at Haven Weymouth Bay (10 years on the trot). This was our first time staying outside of a Haven site and was a last minute booking during the heat wave this Easter. "Silver" van we stayed in was basic, but everything was in working order - kitchen included microwave and oven and all the stuff you needed to effectively self cater. I was impressed by how spotlessly clean the van was on arrival, accepted usual inground stains on carpets you'd expect from an older van.

Comfort wise, the van was what you'd expect - don't expect luxury mattresses or highly effective heating systems in anything other than the massively expensive chalet's on wheels you'll pay a lot for, and which in fairness this site doesn't appear to have anyway.

Entertainment as you'd expect - 6pm kids early evening entertainment, 8pm painful link up CB Radio style bingo, 9pm a show and 10.45pm a disco. Clubhouse drinks were expensive in my opinion, near on £12 for a couple of pints and 3 small soft drinks. However, the independently operated on site shop whilst limited in range was value for money given it's convenience.

Downsides of the site? My biggest grumble was night time noise from the Club House - you could literally hear every song played/performed, lyrics included, and this seemed to get amplified from 10pm onwards. Some might say an advantage given the cost of drinks - you can drink your own and listen to the entertainment from your van! Ear plugs are a must if you're wanting any sleep before Midnight.

My other grumble - dogs. The "Keep dogs on a lead" notice as you enter the site is not enforced. The fashion amongst majority of dog owners staying there was for the scary looking trophy dogs - you know the sort, bull terriers etc. Fair play to the bloke who goes round the site litter picking every morning, but his responsibilities need to be extended to clearing up dog mess too which was left lying around.

Waterside Holiday Park is well located midway between Paignton and Brixham, 5 mins in either direction by car. Nearest beach is Goodrington Sands, but our favourite was Broadsands literally 5 mins drive away. Novelty value comes from the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway which runs literally alongside the site and local beaches, with steam trains passing every hour or so.

Overall - if you're used to average Caravan holidays, you know the score - at the right price this is a good base from which to explore area, but overall a pretty average park in my opinion.

Room Tip: Broadsands is the best beach closest to the park.

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2010

My partner & i stayed there for a week.
As soon as we parked in the main carpark we saw it was shabby, there were cracks in the walls of the main building and it looked like it could do with a coat of paint.(POOR FIRST IMPRESSION). The caravan was only seven months old but the cleanliness was still poor
.
The bedroom was always cold as the heater was near useless, just as well we brought our own blankets, as threre were none provided.

The 250 litre bin near are Caravan was over flowing with rubbish for 3 days and not emptied.

One of the days we could only just get in and out of the park by driving behind and shop and a caravan (Had to fold in my wing mirrors).
This was due to a new caravan unit which had dropped of a lorry at the entrance, blocking it.

Me and my partner went to look at other parks within walking distance of waterside and we were even more upset and disappointed about the poor standard of the park we were staying in, compared to other parks in the area.
MY ADVICE IS PAY THE EXTRA £ 30 TO £40 AND STAY AT BEVERLY PARK OR HOBOURNE PARK. (and thay have indoor swimming pools).

I'm just being honest, thanks for reading

Went for a three day break curtesy of the Sun newspaper promotion. We upgraded to a gold caravan due to previous reviews and found the van to be very good. The mattress left a lot to be desired as you could feel every spring. So on the second day we used a spare duvet from the other bed as a base then the sheet and it was 100% better. Also the van was single glazed so quite cold in the morning, my job to get out of bed and light the gas fire in the lounge each morning. The entertainment was excellent, aimed at the kids early on and more for the adults later. Prize bingo was played and one link game between 19 camps in the group. this led to good winnings and on the saturday the full house prize was £1500, but it wasn't us that won it :( We opted for the half board option as this was a break for both of us and the wife didn't want to be cooking. The breakfast was very good, the evening meal had a lot of choices,BUT most were with chips, there was no salad whatsoever. Still we enjoyed what we picked each of the three nights. Plenty to see in the area especially Cockington, what a lovely village. Traffic was quite heavy even in October, must be a nightmare in the summer months. We would return again as it was a relaxing break.

Just returned from a weeks holiday here and really enjoyed it. Park is set on a hill so possible best to avoid if you have mobility problems. Stunning views across the bay to Torquay. We went in late september so expected the weather not to be great, not many people there either but that provided a bit more personal attention from the reps so not all bad.. We had a bronze caravan, tried to upgrade but was too late. Wished i had upgraded when i booked though as can get very cold at night and the only heating was a gas fire in living area. Site is fairly small with entertainment, pool and restaurant all withing easy reach of each other, though we didnt use the pool.
restaurant is nice and served pub style food. But the best part of the holiday was the entertainment team, they were fantastic. Would like to make special mention to Mick, Tomo, Ben, Jade, Sara and Rory you were brilliant guys and i think our 3 yr old daughter made a lasting impression especially on the last night by moving all the stools near the stage to the bar.
All in all a good holiday, good location with regular buses taking you to brixham, paignton and torquay. Definitely a holiday park we will look to return to (hopefully with the same entertainment team ;)

After a 7 hour journey sat in endless traffic jams with two young children Our arrival was disappointing and annoying, the caravan had not been cleaned after the previous occupier but, there was a greeting card informing us our caravan had in fact been cleaned top to bottom..That means the cleaner left his calling card but couldnt be bothered to clean up..We had to wait whilst housekeepers cleaned it, I am glad that we didnt pay the extra charge to allow us to check in earlier,..that would of been a further kick in the teeth. After a one hour marathon cleaning session by two cleaners a £20 voucher was presented to us as a form of apology, redeemable "only" in the onsite bar or restaraunt. Some area's around the site were a little dishevelled and neglected,in particular flower beds/Lawned area's etc and we never saw any litter pickers. The dog litter bins located near to where we had to park our car were not emptied during our 7 day stay and they stunk. The area outside the pool entrance is overlooked by the "managers" office and leads upwards to a kids play area, flowerbeds in this area were Two feet high with weeds The kids play area is a poor afterthought, one slide and a couple of infant bouncy items. Car parking is also very poorly thought out,we had to park our car approx 150 yards away and struggle with our luggage. The site is on a steep incline and the caravans are set on terraces. Some car park spaces have been reserved by owners. The Dogs must be kept on leads rule is not enforced, also the signs asking dog owners to pick up mess after their dogs is ignored by the many, the results of this blatant ignorance are obvious, we had to dodge the dog mess left behind, Once outside the site on the coastal paths and tracks it became even more of a hazzard, we called it "Dog toilet alley".Weve done many caravan holidays and our experience is that private owners pay more attention to detail...ie/ coffee, tea, toilet rolls already in place and beds made prior to your arrival, The corporate experience was that we were just another number. There seems to be a pre-occupation with trying to sell holiday homes...Although this review is Very Critical of certain aspects of this site it is a true reflection of what we experienced,There are some Positives believe it or not....The Location of the site cant be beaten and it overlooks the bay with stunning views,Entertainment was fantastic and the kids loved it, If you fancy a lazy day and cant be bothered to go off site then the Smugglers Restaraunt offers a great "Pub style" menu,The outdoor swimming pool is heated.
We would recommend the site to others but some aspects of its upkeep and management need to be looked at......
