Seahaven Hotel
Ranked #82 of 97 Paignton B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 30, 2012

Well....We stayed here for one night in late July thankfully for one night only. The room cost £39 and frankly wasn't worth anything more so DO NOT pay anymore. On first entering the property, shabbyness is really the key word here, 'shabby' as in uncared for, tired looking and dull. The room itself straight away gave me the impression that the owners of this B&B are not interested in anything else other than taking cash from people whilst giving them what can only be described as a roof over their heads with washing facilities. The room itself was in need of redecoration, whoever made the decision to use sky blue with white has no eye for colour co-ordination or what looks pleasing to the eye. Bedding didn't match, TV difficult to get a picture on, could only get one channel! I really want to get an honest opinion across here but from a customer's point of view, the only plus thing I guess was it's location to the seafront if that's what you want. We had a room facing the street and it was quite difficult to sleep when you have a few cretins outside at 3am yelling away fighting but of course, this is nothing to do with the B&B but a mere observation of the garbage that walks the streets in the early hours around Paignton. Regardihng the other comments about the rooms being small and hearing other people through the walls. Yes it has been designed inside like some modern housing complex where the developers want to cram as much money making potential into one space without much thought for the occupants but I thought the space was adequate to be honest. Just make sure you don't have a room next to Tarzan and Jane otherwise you might just get a radio porn show in words and not pictures! As for breakfast, we are both vegetarians and you aren't catered for here. We just got brekkie without the meat at the end of the day. My beans looked fresh out of the mortuary, the egg did come out with a yolk, the mushrooms were tinned and vile (no thought yet again to just put themselves out a little to make fresh mushrooms...it doesn't take much does it!) so all in all, I sat there thinking 'we can always get breakfast in asda's'! I am never that bothered how the owners come across in establishments like this as you never see them but the lady who seemed to be in charge clearly needs to go to etiquette school as again, no idea on how to welcome guests. ......so to sum it all up, yes you can tell I wasn't impressed can't you. I can't for the life of me understand why people who run this kind of business where they deal with the public seem to have little time for anyone who walks through the door whilst not giving a damn what impression they leave on people that stay in their B&B. Perhaps they are clueless so I am being totally unjust who knows but there must be much better places to stay in Paignton than this place so only stay here if you haven't anywhere else to stay. ...oh one more plus point. The room was tidy when we arrived so no complaints there.

Me and and my partner stayed here very recently. First impressions was disapointment when we realised this is NOT a hotel as stated but a bed and breakfast!! After coming to terms with this fact and realising our space in the building and room was limited, we actually really enjoyed ourselves.
I will start with the good points! ok the best point to make is how close it is to everything! couple minutes to the beach, resturants (with fab offers), big play area, pier, town and cinema. so plenty to do and see without the car!! loads of places to visit all less than an hours drive, such as paignton zoo and model village which were both fab! Our room had all the basics we needed and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast each morning was gorgeous, help yourself to cereal and juice, you then get toast and tea/coffee, and then a full english!! kept us going for the day! I would suggest putting some background music/radio on though as it was very quiet and you feel you have to whisper!
ok here we go, few bad points sorry! we stayed in room 1, everytime other people used their hot water or flushed their toilet we could hear the tank in the roof refilling and this was actually loud enough to wake us at night or not hear the tv and continued for at least ten minutes at a time! signal on the tv was poor, although we did have thunder storm so i guess that affects it. The other noise that kept us awake were the seagulls! they do not ever shut up, even at night and as it was hot we needed the window open, maybe we could have closed it if we had a fan in the room? we didnt really hear anybody else that was staying in the building apart from one evening some workmen staying had got a bit drunk and forgot how loud they could be at one in the morning!! The owners did say sorry for this the next morning although it wasnt their fault! They seemed very nice people although quite shy.
The worst point to mention is the parking!! outside of the bed and breakfast is an hour bay, you can however park here all night between 6pm and 8am, but this does mean you have to move your car every morning! there is a hotel just yards down the road that offer parking all day for £5 and in the other direction you will see a multi storey car park with an offer of a weeks parking for £33.
Overall we would recomend the seahaven "hotel" but only for couples/singles that dont mind basics and dont have children. Paignton itself is an absolutely lovely place to go, we actually fell in love with it.

The B & B was clean and tidy. The price reflects the 2* accommodation, clean sheets, great filling breakfast, friendly owners, hot water etc. Don't expect more than the basic and you won't be disappointed. There are no parking facilities at this B & B, you can park on the road after 6pm til 8.am for free. There are parking bays but if you are visiting between May-Sept there is only a 1hr time period. A 5 min walk to the multi storey car park is at the bottom of the road, but can work our expensive. A number of local hotels offer a parking facility for £5 per day.

I consider it would be unfair to expect too much of a room costing £16.50 inc breakfast!! When I saw the price I checked Tripadvisor for reviews before I booked. Overall: not bad.
Dirt and dust in corners and where things are not so obvious like top of shower and back of TV. Room 7 very small for double room. No dressing table for the ladies. If they rehung the wardrobe door the bed and mirror on wardrobe door could be put to use as there is a socket close by ofr hairdryer.Maybe if owner reads this they may consider it :-)
Very poor sound insulation so I could hear everything in next room and found myself creeping about so as not to disturb anyone. I was attracted by free WiFi as I was there for business. Free WiFi struggled to the top floor. They need to put in some network power adaptors and a WiFi access point to top floor.

Like bonnie012 I also stayed in room 6. I was met by a friendly member of staff and made very welcome. The tv was on the bedside cabinet perfectly viewable by me and my son from any angle. Breakfast was very good and set us up for a great day in Paignton. I will stay here again and my one night stay was exactly what we (Father and son) expected to find in a low cost hotel in Paignton ! TOP WORK BOSS.

we were received by the owner(male) Our welcome was'nt overly warm nor were we offered any help with our bags and our room was on the top floor(room 6).We were very disappointed to see that the old style portable tv was on the bedside table and could not be viewed by sitting on the bed in the normal manner. The other bedside table held tea/coffee making facilities which were quite adequate although I had to ask that our cups be changed as they had tea rings and were wet.The bedding was clean and smelled fresh but the duvet covers and pillow cases were mis matched and the pillows were very thin. The drawers contained hairs(not ours) and more than 40 attraction leaflets, some tattered, ripped and duplicated.I dropped one of my tablets on the floor and when my husband pulled out the bed to retrieve it I found thick dust and a half eaten custard cream(also not ours)The en-suite was to be our worst discovery and can only be described as filthy, not wanting to up sticks with a 4 year old we shot off to a local supermarket where I bought bleach and sponges and scrubbed the shower head(3 more hairs of a curly nature), walls, grouting, toilet, loo brush holder, soap dish, toothbrush holder and sink until an acceptable standard was reached.Later in the evening my hubby and I both felt cold so off I went again in search of the owner who made no complaint about putting the heating on but asked us individually if we were cold and pointed out to us twice that he was in "shirt sleeves".We were first down to breakfast at 8.30am and were served by a very sweet and friendly lady(co owner,we think) and breakfast was hot, hearty and plentiful although personally I don't like tinned mushrooms but that is a matter of choice and hubby polished them off.A good position but parking was'nt great. We would'nt use the Seahaven again unless a serious deep clean had taken place.
