“Good but not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

Have just returned from a meal here, the atmosphere is lovely,
I had a black pudding starter which was fantastic but the main course was so bland, the rib eye steak tasted like a cheap tesco one and had no flavor whatsoever as did the Diane sauce it was served with.
My wife had a cheese pie which was great.
All in all a nice meal but the steaks really let it down.
Think will be returning to Bennets restaurant next time

Excellent lunch menu packed with local produce and reasonably priced, friendly helpful staff.
Hard to find fault.

“lovely place PITY IT IS NOT BABY FRIENDLY”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

We attended a wedding 28th sept.had a lovely meal, staff very pleasant and helpfull, however, there are No baby changing facilities, also when I asked a member of staff did she have a quiet place to feed my grandson we was told to go to the public bar, which was full, so we found a quiet corner in the restaurant where the wedding party was held, all people in the restaurant with an exception of 8 was family.my daughter discreetly, also covered by a large muslin cloth fed the baby, the owner SImon jones came over and asked us to move to the public bar, as the table we was sat at was set for next day and he didnt want it upsetting, I said I was dissapointed there wasnt any baby facilities, he abruptly said the restaurant was built in the 1600s not 2000, so we said what shame to have a lovely place but no welcome for a young family..with that attitude I am surprised he has a business, we will DEFINATLY NOT be visiting that place again

“Old Style charm”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

One of our German friends was visiting us and we took her to this restaurant for a meal to celebrate her birthday. Having eaten here a couple of times a year for some years we felt confident the food would be good and we wanted her to have the experience of the old fashioned English style and ambience. It lived up to expectations on both counts and she really enjoyed it. It is an hour's drive from home but well worth the effort.
