Very nice and comfortable premier inn, stayed here on our way to center parcs whinfell forest (penrith) lovely welcome. And a bargain at just £25.00 for the night, stopped on the back too. Its junction 25 off the m6. I booked this hotel in January this year to get the 25.00 rooms. Did, nt ues taybarn next door as itsbuffet every evening, went for a sandwich at nearby asda or sainsbury just 2 mins away. Would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rm 29 on the front was nice. But also 28 on the back. Idenical rooms.

We've stayed in loads of Premier Inns and have always had a great experience, but this one just didn't do it for us.

Upon arrival, we dropped off our bags in the room and headed for the bar for a much needed pint. There were no staff behind the bar so we stood and waited. Another couple walked in and headed for the bar just as the barman came out. They hadn't even reached the bar but he greeted them as they were approaching and asked what they wanted. We felt invisible!

When we'd been served we sat down. There were no comfortable seats in the bar area, just high tables with bar stools or a large dining table. It was extremely noisy with children shouting and running around. We downed our beers and left. We decided not to eat there in the evening as again, full of children running around and very noisy.

During the evening, we wanted a cup of tea but had used the two tea bags left for us in the room. I looked around for a phone to order more tea bags, but there wasn't one! I had to get dressed and go downstairs to reception. No telephone in the room? Unheard of!

I hadn't pre-booked breakfast so paid for the three days on arrival. On our first morning we went down and made our choice from the buffet. Everything on our plates, with the exception of the sausage, was cold. I left mine and waited for the staff to put fresh food out. When they did, I went up and got a fresh plate of food. This was also cold, but had only just been put out. Unbelievable. I complained to the waitress who said "Not again". Finished what we had and went and cancelled our next two breakfasts and got a refund.

The staff at the hotel were wonderful, no complaints whatsoever about them, but we cut short our stay and left after 2 nights and moved on.

I wouldn't stay here again. It just wasn't up to the Premier Inn standard and not what we'd experienced from them in the past. The restaurant next door is very popular with the locals for the cheap meals and family offers, but not good quality food and is everything we dislike in a restaurant.

i can't recommend this place and would definitely advise you to avoid, and book into another Premier Inn close by.

So disappointed.

I travel a lot and like to split my reviews down to a number of things

Staff, accommodation , food, quality of sleep. With premier inn you should know what you're getting , im afraid at Wigan this was a massive let down… The place is just off a duel carriageway, nothing nearby except a Sainsbury's, with a Massive taybarns 'restaurant' next door. When you are greeted at the front door by two massive rat traps you know this is one posh place… The staff from premiere inn were friendly as usually which is a bonus but they did not have a lot to work with… the room itself was disappointing by premier inn stds, the bath starting to go mouldy, the bed VERY warn with the ability to feel every spring.. luckily I was staying on my own so managed to find a position in the bed that was not too bad, by the time if found this out it was late and I was in my 'pj's so I did not have a chance to ask to swap rooms. An irritation was the TV, mounted high up on the wall, with no ability to move it, and with the volume 'limited' so you could barely hear it.. very disappointing. The Tybarns 'restaurant' was awful really truly awful , like some 'all inclusive' buffet type thing you get in a really pants foreign hotel… poor limp salad cart… chip shop grill house, Italian, world of spice and cavery. Here they seemed to have everything you could fill your plate for £9.99 but NOTHING was done well.. there were a LOT of children running around too… The best pick of everything was the pizza ,which was freshly made but still not great… everything else deep fried , and sat under heat lamps for what seemed like the week . My best advice don’t eat here get in the car and go and get a sandwich form Sainsbury's you will be better satisfied… Even the premiere inn breakfast here was poor, with no cutlery anywhere , you had to help yourself and sit somewhere, eggs and bacon were horribly undercooked, with both cereal dispensers broken and wobbley…. also no take away coffee cups for that final coffee to take on the road. Overall the worst Premiere inn ive stayed in in the uk… the lasting memory tripping over the broken paving stones on the path to the car park getting 'wet' as it splashed my suit. Poor very poor….

Hotel was pretty much as you'd expect though despite being one of the refurbished Inns we found the beds very hard and not conducive to a good night sleep.
The attached Taybarns restaurant served reasonably good buffet food with lots of choice, but was extremely busy with lots of small children running about.
Not what we wanted after a long drive, unfortunately this Inn isn't close to any more relaxing venues
