We booked into this establishment for two nights. We checked out before breakfast after our first nights stay. If we had arrived earlier in the evening we would not have stayed there even for one night. The overall impression of this hotel was dark, dingy and in desperate need of repair. Our room was noisy and and with a great view of the cemetery opposite!
The room was in need of total refurbishment as did the bathroom. It was filled with a mish mash of furniture which contained the night clothes of some previous occupant. The towels were so rough they could have been used as sandpaper. There was a very noticeable and pungent aroma from the bedding. One of the electrical sockets on the wall was loose and very possibly dangerous.
Comparing the photographs on the web site to the actual hotel only goes to prove the possible power of photoshop!
We were so dissatisfied with this hotel that we were willing to lose the monies that we had paid for our stay and book into another hotel for our second nights stay in Wigan.
In short don't stay here.

The Coaching Inn Hotel is a Victorian pub on the edge of Wigan which has been converted as a convenient stopping place for people who need to stay in this area. As such it does extremely well. It is not a vacation resort nor a place to brag about, but it is comfortable, clean, friendly and convenient - and the cooked breakfast is excellent. AND, unlike many hotels I have used at many times the price, the lighting can be arranged for comfortable reading in bed (too many hotels light their rooms for seduction (I should be so lucky on solitary business trips!) rather than comfortable enjoyment of a book). If I have a criticism it is that the stairs should have a more grippable bannister rail.

This hotel has an old fashioned 'quaint' feel to it and you'll find the decor keeps in tradition with the appearance of the building. We booked here for the night in mid June to attend a concert in Manchester. The owners are absolutely lovely and are so helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and very light and airy. The breakfast was cooked fresh and you could help yourself to fruit, yoghurt, toast, tea & coffee etc and have as much as you like. Brilliant value for money if you're staying in the area and ideal to get to Liverpool or Manchester- although beware of highly priced taxi charges back from the main towns or cities! Although on a busy junction, we had no traffic noise at all and really enjoyed our stay.

This is primarily a hotel used as "digs" by people working in the area - but if you want somewhere cheap and cheerful look no further - we had a twin for b&b for £20 a head and breakfast was fine and freshly cooked.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 weeks and would say that anyone working in the area will find this place to represent value for money. Whilst the décor could do with refreshing, overall the place was clean and located close enough to the town but without the noise and traffic.
The evening meals are cooked to order and the food was always freshly prepared, very tasty simple fare, enough for anyone's appetite.

My first impression of this hotel was that it had a homely feel to it. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. I only had a single room but it had an office desk/chair with a decent size TV and the free WIFI is a major plus for business users. The breakfast options are excellent, I recommend the cooked breakfast. Great value for the money. Andrew

Would recommend happily. Very friendly lady looked after us throughout our stay. Breakfast was well cooked. The room was clean, comfortable and warm. Room was dated but would not put us off staying again. Good value budget b&b.
