A fantastic night, very entertaining and free as well!
I can't believe some people have the audacity to complain about a FREE event. Yes, it was so busy people had to be turned away but I'm glad that this was done for the sake of safety! I'm sure that those people would not be happy if they HAD been permitted and then they or there children had been injured! As it was free due to an inability to limit numbers on a multi accessible meadow numbers could not be calculated beforehand.

Thank you to all staff for the fantastic free night, I can't wait for next year.

Why do my wife and I eat at The Foot (Holts Arms) most weeks? Well, that must be because we have never been disappointed with the food or service in the many visits we have made. Steak night (Thursdays) offers what must be the best value steak meal in the area, including a pint of real ale for around £10, and my medium rare rump steak has always been cooked to perfection. Fish and chips also very good! Staff are friendly and polite, and service is highly efficient. Great in summer for sitting outside, and warm and cosy in winter with log fires. So good is it that it is my pub of preference for a Saturday night pint as well. Unlike many pubs these days, this place is well run and does its best to provide a convivial atmosphere for all the customers.

Went along this evening with family (hubby n 2 boys 14 & 12) to attend 'Bonfire & Fireworks' as advertised...sadly evening was a disaster. Expected busy times but this bordered on the ridiculous. On approach to Crank Rd traffic appeared busy & slow and we asked a chap directing cars on Upholland Rd at 1835hrs if the event was full? We were advised 'no' but we were adviced us to park on Upholland Rd rather than Crank Rd due to traffic. We observed the advice given and after parking with ease walked for 5 -8 mins to get to the Holt Arms where we were met with a scene of utter Chaos, dangerous roads, extremely abusive people leaving event in frustration and many, many disapointed and upset children and upset parents ...and after being advised the event was not full about 8 minutes before the same chap informed us there was now saying 'no room at the Inn', when I reminded him he had told us to go and park 8 mins earlier he stated he 'hadnt realised how busy it was' . After a 40 min wait we spent the 9 minute firework display stood on the carpark very frustrated and disappointed however our kids wanted to see some sort of display and they were old enough to realise leaving for another venue was not an option due to time scales etc. So they tried to find the best available observation point and they were able to watch the short displayfrom over the perimetre wall but they came away upset, frustrated and disappointed. By this point police were in attendance in large numbers and they did a fabulous job organising what can only be described as a catalogue of errors. For next year may I suggest a minimal fee entry ticket with tickets sold prior to the event and no entry on the night....with the numbers that turned up tonight this shouldnt be difficult!!! Although sadly after our horrible experience I will be voting with my feet and would not even require a free ticket for next year. Incidently, our last night out was in August (Kids n work etc) and ironically it was to the Holt Arms but we will not be returning after this evenings experience....far too disappointed and angry to return now!
please dont send us your Christmas Flyers!!!

A very disappointed

We used to love this place, still has its appeal but we visited recently for a meal and sadly we were disappointed. We struggled to consume the enormous 'chips' served with our meals. Somewhere between a potato wedge and failed roasted potato these monstrosities were really uncomfortable to swallow! Fortunately my mothers dentures were not damaged by the ordeal.

Thank you for your review. Although the "Real Hand Cut Chip" were not to your liking we appreciate your review as we thrive on constructive reviews. I would like to point out that all staff are trained to check that your meal is satisfactory, so may i suggest that in future it would be better to raise these issues during the meal and then we have an opportunity to rectify any issues you may have. All customers who do not enjoy "Real Hand Cut Chips" have the option to choose new potatoes or mash. On our new menu out soon we will also be offering "Fries" for those who prefer the more continental chip to our tradition English Chip. We hope to see you again soon. Many Thanks.
