“Not suitable for dogs”
Reviewed April 13, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We stayed at the cottage for 3 days. It is a lovely location and lovely cottage. Not suitable for dogs as far as I'm concern!!..No outside space to let the dog out for a wee. Every time the dog wanted to go out we had to take him on the lead. There is also dogs roaming round and barking at you whilst trying to walk your dog!! A caged area is under the stairs where you are told you HAVE to put your dog at night and if you leave them alone. Being the owner of a Bullmastiff who has never been caged this was a good idea so I ended up staying in for the day whilst my partner went to the places we couldn't take the dog. Hundreds of ANTS in the kitchen and attacked our food, the bin was swarming with them. Very strange for this time of year! We never met the owners so never got chance to air our views.

Management Response
Apr 14, 2016
I am sorry the guests did not feel the cottage was dog friendly, we have many guests with dogs who have stayed and all had a great time. We have a 10 acre site and are in the heart of Newstead Abbey Park where people take dogs for walks on and off lead it is perfect for doing so..
I can't comment on the ants as the honest truth is we have not seen any when we cleaned, new guests who the same day that these current guests left and they have not seen any?
We were not here when the guests arrived but they are informed in the details we live next door and if they have any issues to come and see us, they also have our telephone number.

“Away for Christmas”
Reviewed December 30, 2015 for a stay in December 2015

I love going away for Christmas. And if you are the same as me then the Granary is right up your street. Set in the grounds of Newstead Abbey it is an amazing location. Miles from anywhere. The walks are breathtaking. The cottage is lovely and spacious. It has everything you need and is not expensive by any means. 3 bedrooms you can even take the mother in law . Only problem, and I suppose it's not a problem if you want seclusion. The wifi needs boosting. Well we do have gadget crazy kids. Overall you really need to try this place.

The Granary is a really well appointed cottage, two of the bedrooms have huge bathrooms. we went with our 9 month old baby & really enjoyed the walks around the huge estate. Beautiful spring woods, bluebells everywhere.

“Love is in the air...”
Reviewed February 17, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Given that this has been our third stay at 'The Granary' within the space of 18 months, it will be no surprise to hear us say in this review that we absolutely love the place! We drove up from Cornwall on the first Saturday of the half term break which also happened to be Valentine's Day. When we arrived at the cottage we found a beautiful heart shaped cake waiting for us which we enjoyed during our stay with cups of warming tea after brisk winter walks with the dogs.
Newstead Abbey was particularly beautiful at this time of year, its grounds bedecked with carpets of snowdrops and frozen puddles to scrunch through.
The Granary was as cosy as ever. Our eldest daughter joined us for part of the visit and we chilled out on the comfy sofas with DVDs including the whole of the first series of 'Broadchurch'! The kitchen is very well equipped so we were able to cook for ourselves and not move very far away at all - other than for another lovely Sunday lunch at The Fox and Hounds.
Having had three winter visits, we are hoping that at some stage we may get to experience The Granary in the summer when we are sure it would be idyllic with such stunning countryside surrounding it.
Thanks again for another wonderful stay. Loved it.

“Another great stay at The Granary”
Reviewed November 23, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

Just returning from another lovely weekend stay at The Granary. It really is such a cosy, home from home place to stay and both daughters and dogs love it! Weather not as good as this time last year but we still managed some good walks and enjoyed exploring the grounds of Wollaton Hall in Nottingham. We also took owner Steve's advice and visited the nearby pub The Fox and Hounds for Sunday lunch - it was very good indeed. Hopefully we will be returning to The Granary again and make it an annual pilgrimage from Cornwall!

“A warm cosy and quiet hideaway for an autumn winter break”
Reviewed November 8, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Fantastic location, perfect for a quiet retreat and good base to explore the region. Warm welcome on arrival, the homemade cakes were very much appreciated after a long drive. The setting in the grounds of Newstead Abbey were beautiful and we enjoyed many walks kicking the autumn leaves around the Abbey and the lake with our children and dog. Overall standard of accommodation was very good but the sleeping and bathroom facilities were excellent

“Lovely accommodation, great location”
Reviewed August 23, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We had a lovely stay at The Granary. The quality of the accommodation was great and the location superb. There was also good attention to detail - a high chair, stairgate and cot for my 1yr old, and lots of books for my 3 yr old's bedtime stories! They loved seeing the horses and tractors in the surrounding farmyard and the Abbey and gardens a short drive down the road were ideal with a playground, ducks to feed, a cafe and loads of room to explore and run round. We also had super day trips to Clumber Park and White Post Farm. There is so much to do in the area we would definitely come back, and would stay here again. I can see The Granary cottage becoming a regular haunt!
