Fantastic large room with a view over the city. Bed very comfortable and shower room OK. The comfortable armchairs much appreciated. The owners and staff were very friendly. We ate at the G-spot resturant because it was too wet to walk into Durham. There is a deal for guests Tuesday to Friday for £20 for 2 courses. Amazing food don't miss the chance.

Room Tip: room 15 is very spacious.

Weekend in Durham 30th & 31st March
Lovely on the outside, good location and plenty of parking but the room was dire.
We booked a "Superior Room", i can't imagine what the "Inferior Room" would have been like!, so when we got there we were disappointed to find the following when we entered our ground floor room.
Fusty smell, tired decor and furnishings, dusty, view of a wall and a fire escape out of the window, head board actually hanging off on one of the beds (screwed it back on myself as i didn't want to cause a fuss), bed creaked very loudly when attempting to turn over, hot tap was not fixed so the whole thing turned round, bath panel broken and one of the panels hanging off, sealant around the bath didn't look very clean, very small television fixed to the furthest corner of the room that had a chipped damaged screen (nearly needed binoculars).
First morning woken up by noise from room above at 0500hrs, granted they had a toddler but every one of their footsteps creaked so we had to listen to them walking about until breakfast.
Breakfast mainly okay apart from ordering poached egg and getting a fried one. Linen was stained and a bit grubby, one teacup had a tea stain.
We put our towels in the bath when we went out for the day 0900hrs and on returning at 1700hrs wanted a shower but no towels to be seen. Went to reception and had to ask for some.
A shame to complain really but the nice facade, location and parking were let down by the interior.

We stayed just a single night - the twin room had loads of space, but the single, as you would expect was tight, with a TV about the size of A4. We had an excellent meal in the Gourmet spot, which we only found by accident as we thought it was a B&B. The location is a bit out of town but in a quiet area. The only downside was the combination of thin walls, a yappy dog next door and the heavy slamming fire doors. recommended

We had a double room whick had an extra single bed and it still looked spacious. The beds are really comfortable. The breakfast was delicious there is everything you would want and the dining room looks very splendid all done out in white but beware it can be abit too dazzling early in the morning after a night out on the tiles! I found the location to be a bit out the way from the centre of town and you certainly get some exercise with the long uphill path taking you back to the hotel.

Looked good on the surface but 'creaky' rooms and smelly shower curtain soon put us off. The hotel focuses on its restaurant and 'aspires to achieving a michelin star'; and 'uses the best local produce wherever possible'. However their aspirations as a restaurant had not been passed on to the breakfast chef who produced horrible instant coffee, mass produced sausages and, for my wife's 'continental breakfast',thick chunks of english cheese and 'plastic' ham. It felt that they were not really interested in the B and B side, but at their prices they should be.
