“Beautiful, well-maintained house”

Rose Cottage was a lovely place to spend a week. It's very well maintained and had everything we needed. The owner obviously cares about the guests. I'd happily stay here again.
It's an old cottage and so the stairs were steep and occasionally at odd angles. This was fine for us, but if you were unsteady on your feet I'm not sure how comfortable you'd be.

“Fantastic little cottage”
Reviewed June 8, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Rose Cottage was beautiful, charming, cozy, and generally wonderful. We stayed for over three weeks and found it very comfortable. The place is spotless and I have never stayed in a vacation rental that was so well equipped. We cooked most nights and it was very easy - whatever we needed was always there. The bed was very comfortable and we slept marvelously the whole time there.

The location is good - right on several bus lines into town and also a beautiful walk through the woods down to the river and into town. Durham is hilly and the cottage is on a hill so be prepared for some exercise, but if you do not want to walk much there is always the bus.

It is very close to groceries (Sainsbury's), a pub, and a lovely Italian restaurant with a singer performing on Saturday nights - a great family place.

The building is over 100 years old and beautifully maintained - but it can be a challenge for someone tall - particularly the bathroom. The stairs to the second floor are also steep and so it would not be suitable for someone with limited mobility. With those caveats, I would definitely recommend it. Carol was a wonderful host - it was easy to make arrangements to meet and she was easy to reach if needed.

“Lovely cottage for a lovely city”
Reviewed May 30, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Rose Cottage is a clean, comfortable and very well equipped character cottage, ideal for two people. Situated in Gilesgate it is ideal for exploring the lovely city of Durham. Easy walking into the city and plenty of buses to bring you back if the upward slope is too much! Having unlimited car parking right outside is also a big asset. Thoroughly recommended, although the slightlyt steep stairs might be difficult for some.

“Comfortable and convenient cottage in Durham”

We really enjoyed our stay in Rose Cottage. The cottage is well equipped and maintained, clean and very comfortable. The owner is really nice. She met us at the cottage on the first day and gave lots of helpful advice. Gilesgate is a great location for getting into Durham (bus stop close to cottage or lovely walk through the woods to the centre). Good road and bus and train links to the surrounding areas too. We explored the city centre and went on days trips to Beamish, the Northumberland Coast and around County Durham. One minor disadvantage is that the cottage is on the main road so expect some road noise. Ideal for a couple or single person looking for a comfortable holiday let. Would definitely stay again.

Lovely welcome from Carol and cottage had everything you could need. Very cosy and spotlessly clean, we had a very enjoyable 4 days there. Two minute drive or 10 minute walk to Durham which we found delightful. Would stay again.

“Very comfy!”

We stayed for five splendidly comfy nights. Easy to operate central heating, plenty of hot water, well appointed kitchen and equipment - quite sufficient cutlery, crockery and pots and pans. Good parking outside. Met as arranged by Carol the owner. Spacious bedroom with fine linen and towels. Good walking access to the City. Sainsburys and a good pub a couple of minutes walk away. Very happy to return ourselves and to recommend to friends.
