The Gala is now a staple of Durham life. It has a thriving theatre and cinema; I particularly like the focus on local acts such as 'The Polite Room' in the upstairs studio. Drink prices are reasonable as are food prices (served during the day) and the staff are very pleasant. The cafe area is open in daytime and has a nice ambience with a lot of natural light. One minor quibble is that given they have a proper chef they could be more ambitious with the main meals.
