“Galaroma”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

The Gala is now a staple of Durham life. It has a thriving theatre and cinema; I particularly like the focus on local acts such as 'The Polite Room' in the upstairs studio. Drink prices are reasonable as are food prices (served during the day) and the staff are very pleasant. The cafe area is open in daytime and has a nice ambience with a lot of natural light. One minor quibble is that given they have a proper chef they could be more ambitious with the main meals.

“Looking for panto?”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Panto is always brilliant. We've been going for 5 years now and will be going back again this year. There's 5 of us go, 1 child and 4 adults lol, and we first went when our grandson was 2. It's perfect for little ones as it's not a huge venue, like say Sunderland Empire, and it's not overwhelming for them.

“Intimate”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

The Gala is on the banks of the River Wear at the bottom of Claypath in the centre of Durham. It has an intimate theatre on two levels, giving a variety of productions each year and a two screen cinema. It also has a cafe/bar. We have been several times and enjoy the fact that you are much closer to the performance than many of the larger theatres.

This is a lovely theatre in the heart of Durham. We saw the DULOG production of "Fame" which was excellent.
