“Enjoyable Family Meal”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Visited here on Friday night as we were staying at the hotel next door. On first arrival, i assumed by the name that this was a rowdy nightclub and wasn't until we entered the hotel we seen it was a restaurant (door lead from hotel into restaurant).
I popped in to ask if we'd need to book and table and were advised it would be the best idea. Table booked for 5.45.
When we arrived for our meal i wasn't expecting it to be busy but the place was packed but we were quickly seated. We did however feel the who experience was rushed as we were quickly pressed for our orders and having a small child with us its not always easy to study a menu straight away.
We ordered a bottle of wine, 2 starters, 2 mains & a small main for our daughter which they offered to bring out with our starters. Food arrived very quickly and were quite large portions. On the menu the pasta dishes were about £4/£5 each. For this, i expected about 3 bits of pasta but the plates were full & very tasty. Although we still had room for 2 desserts which were also large portions.
Although we felt a bit rushed by the staff, they were very friendly and paid out daughter a lot of attention. The final bill came to £40 which we thought was very reasonable for all that we'd ordered and the portion sizes we'd recieved.
If i was back in the city i would eat here again.

“"EXCELLENT VALUE"”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

I would like to firstly thank ALL the staff for a very enjoyable, memorable evening, service, excellent, food lovely, (more than enough, so if you are planning having a dessert? skip the starter ha ha) all round a warm welcome, extremely busy, (so maybe not the place to propose to someone, quite loud with all the hustle & bustle, not that thaty should put you off) but very nice place.

“Bedlam”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

Booked table for 4 on Saturday night 7.30pm. Had to stand at the bar until 8.30pm before we were seated. Manager apologised as due to bad weather people were reluctant to vacate their seats after they had finished eating.
The place was heaving and you could not hear yourself speak.
Food was nice and quite cheap. You do get what you pay for.
Only gripe was as soon as we put a knapkin or knife down the waiters took them away. They actually took my daughters plate away whilst she was still eating.
Okay but noisy and rushed.
Not the place for a romantic Italian meal then.

“£3.95 lunch wow”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Had booked a stay at the Durham Travelodge. Sambuca is next door. As we were hungry and couldn't check into the hotel till 3pm, we were tempted by the £3.95 lunch offer. I was more curious as to what they could offer for the price. And I have to say a little sceptical. I couldn't have been more wrong. Starters are a choice of potato skins or minestrone soup. I had the Minestrone and it was delish. Partner had potato skins and they were ok. (go for the soup!!) Lots of it and very bulky. The main course choice was any pizza or pasta-give or take anything over £4.50. Partner had rigatoni bolognese which was to die for. I had the pizza napoli. I'd expected quite small portions but they were, in fairness very big. The pizza base was very thin and crispy. Lovely. Plus loads of anchovies. Service was friendly and efficient. We had 2 soft drinks and the bill came to £10.40!!! You also get a choice of coffee or ice cream at the end. Highly recommended for a great lunch. Credit crunch or not.

“Cheap and cheerful!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Great night out. Speedy service and cheap food but quite a few options from the specials had sold out and a couple of people in my party had to send their pasta back as it was cold. Great atmosphere, but cheap and cheerful describes it well!
