I booked Bowburn Hall Hotel for 30th August 2013. The hotel looked lovely and there was a wedding in full swing. Unfortunately , due to a massive error on expdia.co.uk's part they had no record of our booking.

I arrived with my 2 and 3 year old who were very unsettled after a long trip and although they had no responsibility for our lack of booking Bowburn were fantastic giving us all a drink and phoning round local hotels to find us an alternative room.

Excellent service, thank you very much. And to the bride and groom, thanks for letting us gatecrash your wedding!!

Our daughters wedding reception day and evening was held at Bowburn Hall Hotel and we had overnight accommodation using most of the hotel rooms. I would recommend this hotel for many reasons but will start with the wedding reception.
The room was lovely and overlooked fantastic gardens, the guests had access to the gardens, a lounge, bar and also a lovely conservatory.
The staff are mainly quite young but their service was excellent, they worked very hard and dealt with any queries immediately, remained professional, friendly and helpful throughout the day and night, They have great organisation skills and nothing was a problem to them, multitasking continually throughout the day. The Manager Nikki has been brilliant and kept us calm leading up to the wedding and also on the day but top marks have to go to Craig, he was amazing and seems to have endless energy, thank you, thank you.
The three course meal was the nicest wedding meal I have ever had, it was perfect, everyone commented on how nice the the food was. They served 110 people including a vegetarian, a gluten free person and someone with a poultry allergy - no problems at all. excellent. The evening food (sausage and bacon sandwiches and chips), perfect once again.
The hotel rooms are lovely, amazing clean and everything you needed was there, the bed was so comfortable, wish I could have stayed for a week.
The night time party was excellent, the DJ was great and the dance floor was full from the start of the night right up until 12:00 midnight, a lovely party atmosphere.
The price for the wedding was very competitive, because it was so reasonable we could afford to invite everyone we wanted there. We had priced a hotel local to the church where they married and the difference in price was so great that we could invite 30 more guests, pay for buses to transport the guests to and from the reception and still have money left over.
We had a fabulous day and would totally recommend that anyone planning a wedding go to the hotel and get a price from them.
One other thing that people might not realise, larger hotels can host more than one wedding a day. Bowburn is a perfect size for one wedding and that makes the whole day so much more personal, everyone there belongs to you, the staff are only dealing with your party and there is no chance of bumping into another bride.

The hotel is has a lovely relaxing calm atmosphere and I dying to go and stay there again. They have entertainment nights where and you can get a meal and stay over. I also think it would be perfect for birthdays, retirement party, christenings, company nights and girlie weekends when you could also pop into Durham for some retail therapy.

We found this hotel online and decided to try it for the first time while visiting relatives in the region.
We used a combination of two deals....Sunday night and two further nights all with meals included (suggested by the helpful receptionist on the telephone)
The hotel is tucked away although satnav found it quite easily.
The welcome was warm although slightly disappointing that no-one offered to carry our case up to our room on the first floor (no lift and I have back problems)
Our room, although small, was beautifully presented, extremely comfortable and had lovely views over the pretty gardens.
The bed was a double and we're used to king-size at home but we managed. Free fast wifi in the room was greatly appreciated.
I had read other reviews describing the glass bathroom door! Fortunately my dear wife and I have been married for early forty years so we coped! However I'm sure that many couples would have great difficulty and embarrassment using the "facilities" in full view of their partner. It's time the hotel owners sorted out this anomaly as so many people have mentioned it.
The dining room is well presented and a comfortable place to eat. The menu is vast with a wide variety of choice. The food is extremely tasty and beautifully cooked. The meals represent excellent value for money. The helpings are large and don't be surprised if you can't finish them. Congratulations to the chef.
Full English breakfast is cooked to order and arrives piping hot and succulent (a pleasant change from the lukewarm and slightly dry offerings available from a breakfast buffet)
We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return one day.

Room Tip: Overlooking the gardens at the back of the hotel.

Visited Bowburn Hall for lunch midweek. We chose a table in the conservatory on a beautiful sunny day. Thankfully the doors and windows were open but the outlook onto the walked garden was lovely.
My friend and I both ordered smothered chicken from the lunchtime special menu. The dish was served with a huge covering of barbecue sauce which may not be to everyone's liking. I however loved it as a lot of establishments tend to skimp on the sauce!
Our meals were delicious and we'd definitely recommend. The service was excellent. Overall, great food in a lovely setting.

First of all id like to say that the venue and staff are absolutely brilliant, Top class and have excellent entertainment. The DJ had me up dancing for hours. Brilliant sized room and adequately dressed. the only complaint is the bar prices.

Good Venue , spoilt by the disco .

I often go here with friends and family at christmas, and an occasional theme night.
We were at Angela and Paul's wedding on the 1st August and I have to say worst DJ ever.
As per usual we were happy with the friendly staff, our friends had had a lovely day, food great, grounds lovely.

The kids even enjoyed looking at the chickens .Our day was excellant and then came the night.
The night time entertainment was not up to its usual standard, the DJ was very arrogant he didnt take request's even from the bride and groom.

They had a list of songs they wanted and he basically refused to play them unless he liked them, well thats the impression I got. It appeared he did not even know a lot of the music he had been asked for.

Luckily we knew it was not the normal guy, we have another function to attend before christmas so we will put off booking our normal christmas party untill then .

To sum it up: great hotel, nice grounds, friendly staff, terrible entertainment.
