Though hidden away up a valley on the "wrong" side of the railway viaduct, the hotel is actually a very convenient short walk from the historic centre and is attractively located in a wooded valley. Our family room was not large but it was clean and well maintained. At £109 for three inc. a good breakfast, it was also a very good price. And there is ample free parking - not the case with some of the supposedly cheap chain hotels in the centre.
Because we expected to arrive after 9pm, we were asked to ring when 20 minutes away, which was a little odd as the bar was open until 11, but the reception desk is separate and this did mean there was someone there's to greet us on arrival.
By the way, though the address given in the Trip advisor entry is correct, the map pin is in the wrong place. The hotel is in Flass Vale, Durham, not Flass Avenue, Ushaw Moor, a few miles away.More
