This is a nice, clean, convenient place to stay. It is close to downtown life but away from the bustle for a quiet night. We particularly enjoyed the little nature preserve right behind the parking lot; a lovely place for a walk after dinner.

We stayed here one night when visiting family so know area well. The location of this hotel is in a quiet part of town tho not too far to walk for the nightlife or shops.
We were surprised at the cleanliness and standard and all the staff were very cheery and friendly.
Room nr 19 is fairly small but adequate. We did find the bed mattress quite uncomfortable and the shower cubicle was strange ... like showering in a portaloo, but again adequate for a short stay.
Breakfast was serene and there was a selection of cereals, yoghurts etc and a freshly cooked english breakfast to choice. We did not try the restaurant for our evening meal, but did have a drink or two in the newly decorated bar, a nice touch here was the nibble's on the tables in the evening.
There is free wi-fi which is always a bonus these days.
Overall we would definately stay here again. There is currently a discount offered for paying by cash.

Room Tip: A nice walk through the vale just behind

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is close to the city (5 mins walk) so after parking the car in the free large car park we did not use it again. Very good check-in with a very pleasent lady. We were in room 3 which has a large bathroom with a powerful shower (no bath). The room was adequate in size and very clean. Usual tea/coffee etc with biscuits and a chocolate each (nice touch). There is no freeview TV, just the usual 5 channels. We were as close as you could get to the bus depot, but we did not hear anything.

The lounge has coffee/tea and you can take it and sit outside in the garden.

The bar is very quiet and is mainly used by people using the restaurant. It serves Black Sheep beer and is well run.

Breakfast is served in Finbarr's Restaurant (had a good meal there) and is very good. Serve your juice, cereal and the hot food is waitress service. Full English was very good and filling (2 bacon, 2 sausage, black pudding, beans, tomato and egg of your choice.

BONUS - If you pay by cash, you get £10 per night reduction. So B&B is only £65 per room per night. A real bargain!

Booked with booking.com and chose this hotel for its location near to the town centre. (5 min walk). Ample free parking. Friendly staff. Check in was at 2pm but when we arrived at 1pm the room was ready which was a bonus. Large spacious room and bathroom but the shower cubicle was a tight squeeze. Dated furniture but otherwise a very nice clean room. Large comfortable double bed.
The bar was closed due to refurbishment but there was a lounge area offering free tea and coffee.
Breakfast was in the restaurant known as Finnbars. Very large airy room with beautiful table settings for breakfast time-white table cloths etc. Breakfast was cooked to order and was very good.
A £10 discount for paying by cash.
A pleasant stay!

We stayed for 2 nights on the Saturday and Sunday at the end of October 2010. After reading about the the 'bus station problem' we asked to be put towards the back of the hotel, which we were and we didn't hear a thing! The room was a good size, nice bed and good TV reception. The bathroom was small but very clean, with a good powerful shower with plenty of hot water. Very little noise from our fellow guests, so I guess that the insulation is pretty good. The hotel is in a brilliant position - only 5 minutes to the centre of town down one tiny hill! Durham is incredibly hilly, so after staggering exhausted up to other 'central' hotels on previous visits to Durham we were really pleased with this. There is a nice bar - which was deserted - and a lot of people visited the restaurant in the evening so I assume that's good too, though we didn't actually eat there. We had breakfast on the first morning which was charged on top of the price of the room. It was a typical cooked English breakfast and was fine. When we were there the hotel had a 10% off deal if you paid in cash rather than using a credit card, so by paying in cash we covered the charge for the breakfast, which was good. The staff were very efficient and friendly and I really liked the place. Not that cheap which is why we just gave it 4 stars, but if you want to stay somewhere in Durham that is very central, comfortable and well run, with plenty of parking space, this is the place to stay and I'd definitely go there again.
