Have just returned from a visit to the pub, our fourth time! I cannot believe two of the previous reviews calling the place dreadful etc. All I can state is these people have probably never been there and have put their views of another premises of the same name onto this one on Lanchester Road, Maiden Law. We had a really tasty meal, freshly cooked and well served by a friendly and polite young lady. We ate in the conservatory which is spotless and bright. We could have eaten in the bar area which was an option. Will we return? of course we will, probably in about two weeks time.

Heard this pub had reopened after a total refurb. Didn't recognise the place - wooden beams, log burner, new French windows into the garden whilst the food (a thick gammon steak with pineapple relish)was freshly cooked to order with thick hand cut chips- the best I've ever tasted. My wife had the seabass and she thought that was more akin to a 4 star hotel. the young staff were pleasant and helpful.
Don't understand the previous review - there are 3 pubs with this name in Durham area. Were they in the right place ? We certainly enjoyed it and will be back soon.
