Owner description: The museum tells the proud 200-year-old story of the Durham Light Infantry, especially during World War I and World War II. The displays focus on the experience of war, using letter and diary extracts, plus the actual voices of World War II veterans. Upstairs the Durham Art Gallery presents an exciting programme of exhibitions and events from concerts and talks to practical workshops for children and adults. Please ring for an exhibitions and events brochure.

The museum is an amazing little treasure trove , very well laid out with very interesteing artefacts. You could spend an afternoon here easily, for all members of the family from very young to much older! The 'art gallery' was disappointing but we didn't go for that.

Lovley little museum, full of history from the local (now defunct) regiment, the Durham Light Infantry. Not the Imperial War Museum, but enough to satisfy, set in beautiful grounds.

Its a great few hours especially for the kids, as they have outfits for the kids to wear and alot of the displays are child friendly given the topic.
It made me very proud to see the modern day soldiers and a few of their stories brought a tear to the eye!!

This museum holds a special place in mine and my son's heart. My father (his grandad) was in the 2nd Battalion and fought in the battle of Kohima and Dunkirk to name just a few. My son particularly the hands one approach to some of the weapons and vehicles. You really get the sense of what it was like for them and more recently the soldiers in the Falklands.
