Well worth a visit. I walked the path from Chester le Street to see St Cuthbert's final resting place. So much history here and the space inside I found overwhelming.

The cathedral has a very tranquil atmosphere. You can spend hours just looking around admiring the workmanship of the medieval builders.

We went to Durham not really expecting much, however we really loved the quaint old town. We went to the Cathedral which looked absolutely stunning, its drenched in history and everywhere you look there's art: ceiling's, floors, windows, alters, organs.
The only downside was that they didn't really advertise the fact that the courtyard was used in filing Harry Potter, (we're huge film fans) instead we thought 'this looks familiar' and googled it.
Other than that it's a beautiful building with awe inspiring views.

The Cathedral is an amazing building with features from the centuries to interest the visitor. The Catherdral guides are very friendly and helpful and this adds to the interest of your visit. We always find the stained glass of great interest and there are many beautiful windows two of which are recent additions. At the end of our visit we had tea in the Undercroft restaurant which was very welcome. There is a lego model of the cathedral near the restaurant which is also interesting.

We came to visit the cathedral and what a testament to the Prince Bishops. A quick visit does not do this cathedral justice. Tours are available, but have to be managed in between worship, but you could spend the best part of a day visiting and exploring all that the cathedral site has to offer. The organ produces a great sound, so staying for the music/singing may also be worthwhile.
The rose window is worth seeing and on a sunny day must be spectacular. St Cuthbert's Shrine was surprisingly tranquil.
The cloister was tranquil and a place to reflect.
For the younger at heart the Lego model of the cathedral was equally as impressive.
