Stopped in this hotel mid August, it was a nice hotel although the first room we got given was appalling; shower was broke; toilet didn't flush; A/C was really noisy; directly across from the door to the beautician at the front and to the back lay the car park on the first floor.

We went to the desk to complain and they upgraded us without any fuss which I found to be excellent service and I was very happy to take the upgrade after a long drive.

I was disappointed to have to pay for the car park and think that the hotel should cover this cost, I asked at reception if they could cover that cost and she refused even after trying to fob us off with the terrible room to start with. There was zero parking on the evening we arrived so I had to get up in the morning and move the car onto the car park (not the best)

The hotel was ok although I would stop elsewhere if I was to revisit durham

Room tip: Do not stay on the ground floor

Thanks for your review. We're sorry there were issues with your first room and trust that the second room was much more satisfactory. The car park is a paid parking area and there is a reduced overnight charge for parking of £5.00 per vehicle per night - as you encountered, parking can be challenging particularly at peak times throughout the city so we try to ensure the limited onsite parking is available to genuine hotel customers.
We hope that you might reconsider your decision to return when your travels bring you back to Durham.
Warm regards
The Executive Team

We stayed three days and used the hotel as a base to explore County Durham and Northumbria . The location was perfect , sites in Durham were in walking distance and the hotels location near the dual carriage way gave easy access to the A1 . Our room was a generous size and well fitted out with a large comfortable bed . Housekeeping in the hotel was very clean and tidy . Breakfast was first class as was the service . We will definitely return when we next stay in Durham .

Spent a night here to celebrate my husbands birthday. Clean and confortable room and general area, good parking and the spa was so relaxing. We walked into town and to the cathedral which was fabulous.
Staff were very pleasant. Would not hesitate to return.

Took the local bus to the cathedral (front desk indicated there were very few parking paces at the cathedral and likely all would be snatched up quickly first thing) or we could walk about 400 yards up the hill from the hotel.

After the heart attack I do not do well on stairs so took the bus.

After viewing the cathedral we opted to walk down the hill to the hotel so we could visit the many shops along the way...shockers when we turned the corner and looked down the hill and there was the hotel. Probably 600 yards if we walked up the hill and only 200 yards walk down!

We only stayed one night in a large and comfortable room (Farnham Suite) in the main building, car park view only unfortunately.

The hotel is located just across the river from the historic centre of Durham and within walking distance of the Cathedral and Castle. We also visited the Botanic Garden which is about a mile to the south, about 20 minutes walk away.

The reception staff were helpful, especially explaining the car parking arrangements. Visitors arriving by car should note that the hotel does not have another spaces for the total nu,bet of rooms so it is worth arriving early if possible to secure a space. Registration number needs to be logged with reception and the charge is then only £5 per 24 hours; much higher fees apply if the car is not registered.
