Description: Passion. It is quite often impossible to summarise the experience created within a restaurant with just one word. Passion. Passion to produce the best food possible with the freshest and finest ingredients we can scour the world to find. Passion to strive to be the best. Passion to ensure that our customers remember. Passion to cater for people from all walks of life and give them a lasting memory of our restaurant. We're not going to tell you about how we have stunning river views with outdoor dining set in a 13th Century cellar conversion. We're not going to bore you with how difficult we are to find. We want you to come here, seek us out, walk down those narrow steps, be surprised by what lies beneath and leave wishing you had found us sooner. We're not perfect, we're not the best in the world, but we strive to be the best we can and evolve every day, so come join us on our journey.

We went for lunch and we were delighted at the quality and value of the meal and the surroundings. We will certainly go back next time we are in Durham.

Not the first time we have been here so we called without booking on a Sat afternoon, polite staff. Decent specials menu , food was excellent. We don't don't normally go for offers but we had three courses for £18 and for once it was excellent , I ordered the steak (again something I would normally avoid on an offer). It was really good and cooked to perfection................ Another one of those we would visit again

Had a meal here with a large group at a cost of £40 per head. They laid out four too few places and refused to accept this for 40 minutes. It took an hour to bring out bread, the starter arrived after an hour and a quarter. The food was generally poor, ranging to awful in a few cases, and came in very small portions. They were very short-staffed, wine was not included and the price of drinks was extortionate. Avoid at all costs.

This was our favourite meal during four days in Durham. The restaurant’s great strength is its wine list: an interesting selection and well described. Our red from New York State was delicious. Aperitifs and dessert wines were also very enjoyable.

The menu offered plenty of choice and nothing over familiar. Maybe the meats could have been a bit more tender and we would have liked some green veg for variety.

It’s a comfortable space - relaxed and with a good atmosphere, but conversation was easy.

We particularly liked our waiter, who managed to be formal, amiable and informative.
