We made a reservation for a table for five on Friday evening to celebrate my sons 21st Birthday. We were informed by a local resident that standards had dropped however trip advisor had a lot of positive reviews so we thought we would try it anyway. However we were indeed disappointed. We are a well travelled family and dine out frequently.
The Standard of Food was honestly quiet poor for the price. The wine list is limited and our choice did not live up to its description .The interior is cramped and the service was poor and unrefined. This is not fine dining at its best.

Just got back from an excellent meal at Zen. Best food and service experience for a while.
Staff were attentive, friendly and chatty and the food was amazing. We started with a 'street food' Chicken, prawns, Fish cakes and duck rolls with a dipping sauce to,share. Lovely spices and flavours-simply delicious.
Main courses we had the salmon and the shakin' beef. The salmon was large, pan fried in lime and chilli spices and on spinach and a coconut sauce. The shakin' beef -according to my better half was the best thing he had ever tasted! It was an infusion of mild Thai spices in a 'gravy'. Both dishes came with jasmin rice and there was a salad. Shame there isn't a Zen restaurant in my home town as I would definitely be a regular there.

We arrived slightly early, so were seated in the bar area until our table was ready. We took full advantage of the gorgeous surroundings and scrumptious cocktails, before heading to our table.

We shared Dim Sum to start, which were extremely tasty and the choice of the spicy sauce really added that Thai kick. We both had curries, which were served authentically with boiled rice wrapped in banana leaves. To finish, we shared a chocolate brownie served with vanilla ice cream, although not very authentic, it was a nice tasty treat to finish the meal.

Staff were extremely pleasant and constantly checking whether the food was good and if we needed anymore drinks.

Many hours, 6 pints, 2 champagne cocktails and 4 vodka, lime and sodas later our 3 course meal came to only £80. Bargain!

We were recommended to go to this restaurant when contemplating a night out in Durham. It didn't disapapoint. Tucked away near the Law Courts it presents a welcoming facade and inside it is beautifully decorated and well laid out. Staff were welcoming and informative and attentive to our needs. The menu comprises a range of food from the Far East. We decided on a sharing starter which was excellent, chicken satays, breadcrumbed king prawns, Thai fish cakes and Duck in pancakes. For our main courses we choose Thai green chicken curry and Satay chicken curry. Both of these were outstanding and flavoursome, the Satay curry being particularly pleasing but watch for the small sprinkling of chillies on the top, they are very hot.

Its fair to say that we will be returning very soon, one of the best meals ever

My partner took me to Zen as part of my birthday treat. We arrived mid-sfternoon without a reservation and sat in the conservatory, as it was a warm and sunny day. The service was friendly, efficient and the food served with appropriate delays between courses. We both had starters and a main course with a bottle of white wine between us which we thoroughly enjoyed. The cost was sensible for the quality of food and wine we were served. We would certainly recommend the Zen Restaurant.
