Fantastic stay only one problem busy main road, windows not sufficient enough to keep noise down. Would stay again though. Staff couldn't so enough for you and even catered for gluten free and dairy free diet. THANK YOU.

Room was comfortable, shower was difficult to work and maintain a normal temperature! Not the best night sleep for a light sleeper was awoken very early by the traffic passing by outside the room. The bed was ok, for 2 tall people we could have done with a bigger bed, but it was ok. Breakfast on the morning was a let down, only 5 choices which we had to choose the night before, plenty of toppings for toast but we weren't offered any toast, little variety of things like yogurts and fruit. The breakfast choices that we had were very nice, but no sauces available without having to ask for them. Overall it's an ok place to stay for one night but I wouldn't stay any longer.

Booked for 1 night with friends (2 couples), got train into Durham found the pub to be in a good location and short walk from the station. Pub is smaller than expected but had a cosy feel inside, staff were all very pleasant and helpful. We were given rooms 3 & 6, rooms 3 is 10 times better than room 6, bigger and deco nicer. Found the bed to be very hard and didn’t have the best nights sleep. Continental breakfast was below par, expected much more from this pub as had hear lots of good reviews r.e food. I would recommend 1 night stay but not any longer.

Room Tip: Room 3 is much better than room 6.

Had a very comfortable stay in Feb 2013, having paid in advance by credit card over the phone. When we left, we were told the payment had not gone through, so we paid by credit card again (£570 as there were seven of us). When I discovered through my Barclaycard bill that I had in fact been charged twice, I contacted the Garden House several times, and am still waiting for the refund.

Stayed here on a Saturday night. Very friendly staff who parked our car for us as there was no spaces in the carpark when we arrived.
Lovely cosy pub which was quite busy when we got back later in the evening.
Room was nice with biscuits and water with the tea making facilities and toiletries in the bathroom. Everywhere was clean and tidy and we didn't find the road too noisy.
Would have given 5 out of 5 if the breakfast had been cooked, instead of continental. Would recommend this hotel but we would probably choose a more budget room only option and go out for a cooked breakfast the next morning.

Booked the family room 5 for just the two of us. Two double beds. Generous sized room and large bathroom with over bath electric shower. Lovely and warm. One radiator we couldn't alter the temperature. So we had the window open all night to counteract. Lovely thick bath towels. Plenty of hot water. The room looked recently decorated. Everything very clean. We liked the photos and other artwork. Helped give the room personality. Chose this inn for the real ale which we tried when we returned from Durham at nearly closing time. Great and easy buses into town. Even late at night. The pub looked lovely with plenty of candle lit tables. Friendly breakfast service of continental style breakfast. Would have loved a boiled egg or simple cooked breakfast rather than the generous carbohydrates.

Went to the Garden House today for Sunday lunch and was not impressed. £5.25 for a glass of white wine seems a bit excessive for a little local pub. Lunch was £10 and was beautifully presented but cold. We had ordered some extra gravy and expected to warm our dinners up with that but it was only lukewarm. Food we returned to be heated was given back to us still not very warm. We complained and were offered £10 off our £40 food bill. Won't be going back. On the plus side the service was excellent if a little slow.
