Spent one night here with the family and a large group of friends and were very impressed. When we arrived however we noticed how busy it was and there seemed to be 2 weddings going on, thought it might get a bit noisy but there was no problem and you would never have known what was going on when we went to bed .All the staff were friendly, helpful and polite.
Our rooms were pretty much what we expected for a 4* hotel so no concerns.Did not eat there in the evening but breakfast the next day was very good .Location is superb being right on the river .The many restaurants , cathedral etc are all within a few minutes walk.
Overall would highly recommend and would like to go back as a couple for a weekend.

Booked this hotel for an overnight stay for one night for my husband's birthday and the overall impression was of a lovely hotel. All staff from reception to chambermaid were efficient helpful and friendly. The room had a river view, was large, clean and attractively decorated. The bathroom was clean although was missing any soap. There was no lining in the bin and only 2 teabags on the complementary tray - the soap and bin bags were brought within ten minutes of us mentioning it. Breakfast was wonderful - eat as much as you want buffet and it all seemed fresh despite us not going down to eat until 11.15. Parking was £7 for 24 hours but reception staff extended it for us for a couple of hours so we could look round Durham. Overall a lovely hotel, which we have already recommended to friends.

Room Tip: River view room with large floor to ceiling window

We stayed here for one night in a junior suite as treat for a nice little break. The location is spot on with a bridge just outside the front door to the main shopping area via a few little places for a drink/bite to eat. Parking was free as part of being in an exec+ room and the hotel is very easily accessed. If we returned we probably wouldn't go for the junior suite over an exec room if only there for a night but overall the room was very clean and well laid out, I also like the fact the mini bar is empty so you can put your own items in. Check in was handled very well and the breakfast was good but nothing special. As someone else has mentioned the exec lounge for drinks was very busy but we just sat in the hotel lobby, although that did fill up as well.

However the review has to be based on the enjoyment of our overall stay and it was poor due to the heat in the room itself. The communal area of the top floor was very hot and stuffy anyway, even though the temperature outside was not above 13 degrees. The room was hot before we went out for dinner, we turned both of the room temperature controls to the minus symbol and turned the fan up to max, it made very little difference and changing the fan speed from auto to max did nothing at all. We both found it very difficult to sleep with the heat in the room when we returned. We originally only opened one window (Restricted opening) but during the night opened them all which helped a bit, that is until the cockerel that lives somewhere at the rear of the hotel sparked into life from about 5am onwards! At this stage I rang down to see if they had any central way of reducing the temperature which they didn't and was told there was someone in at 10am who could have a look at it, I told them not to bother seeing as we were leaving anyway. Perhaps it might be an idea to give guests the option to turn down the constantly on underfloor heating in the bathroom which also wouldn't have helped.

On checking out I mentioned this to the lady at reception who thanked me for bringing it to their attention and advised me they were not aware of the problem, although judging by the temperature in the rest of the hotel I am not so sure this is the case as it appeared to be a vented system. The view from this junior suite was also of the car park and wherever that cockerel lives behind it! Considering we paid £180 for one night I expected better on both counts.

I think I would stay here again but not in a junior suite and I would also request not to be on the top floor. Also if you like thai food you must check out Zen.

Room Tip: Avoid room 421 for lack of view and temperature control!

My husband an me stayed at this hotel on 6th May 2013.We decided to stay as we were having a day/night out in Durham and it meant neither of us had to drive home.We booked a room that included parking, breakfast and free house wine and bottled beer from 5.20pm - 7.00pm. The room was lovely and was overlooking the river and only 5 mins walk into the city centre. The breakfast was excellent with everything you could ask for. All in all a very good hotel and will be staying there again as well as other Radison hotels.

Room Tip: If you can get a river view it is better than a car park view.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Raddisson Blu whilst on business in Durham and it is excellent.

The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfy.

The bathroom is clean and the shower works well.

Breakfast was good and the staff are friendly.

Free wifi too.

What more do you want whilst on business?

I've not given this a 5 * because of the farce around the 5.30-7 free bar on the Saturday night. There was nowhere for us to sit and couldn't get near the bar. I'd recommend the hotel increases the size of the business class bar - it's far too small. Apart from that, the rooms themselves are superb and the hotel is only two minutes from the centre

Room Tip: Upgrade to business class if you can

Have stayed here several times for business trips. Short walk from station and into town. Staff are helpful, breakfast is good and the pool is worth a visit. We were upgraded to very spacious Executive rooms at no extra cost.
