“Not too much wrong”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

We stayed for a couple of nights last weekend. Its a nice, modern hotel, with good facilities just a short walk over a bridge from the centre of Durham. You have to pay for parking (£7 per night for hotel guest), but i suppose that is more and more the norm for city centre hotels. Our welcome at reception was friendly and check in efficient.
Our riverview room was spacious and well equiped. If we were being nit picky we could have said that it would be nice to have some more tea bags, as there were only 2, so 2 people couldnt have a cuppa in the afternoon and in the morning, and also in hotels of a similar standard there is often a couple of complimentary bottles of water in the room. However, the room was spotlessly clean, there was a huge comfy bed, iron, safe, minibar (empty unless requested), toiletries and all the other things you would expect.
The gym is one of the best hotel gyms ive used. Lots of good quality equipment. I would image it may be well used by non residents, but it was quiet when we used it late Friday afternoon.
We didnt eat in the restaurant or have breakfast. There are lots of local restaurants and cafes which, without being presumtious, im sure are better value
Probably most negative thing we could say is that the hotel bar prices were extortionate!
Overall a really good, comfortable and convenient hotel. Would definately recomment

lovely modern hotel, very clean, close to city centre. The room was very good, two single beds with all mod cons. Breakfast was part of the deal ok but as we left it was very busy. drinks at the bar £4.50 for stella, over priced and poorer quality. lovely stay at the hotel just needs to improve on a few things

Had a lovely experience at our friends wedding. The room came with a view, very nice central location if you wanted to do a spot of shopping. Breakfast nice, room good. Very trendy bar with high prices. Staff not really friendly service didn't exceed my expectations, seating areas could have been looked after more. Wedding area lovely. They don't hang around to turfing you out 11am means 11am! Could have done with a little extra 1hr. Food at wedding great, especially the carvey yum yum! Overall good experience.

I stayed here on a business trip.

The hotel is located close to the train station, however due to Durham's topography I would advise against walking and to take a taxi instead!

The staff offered a warm welcome and the room service was excellent. I thought the room was superb and offered excellent value for money.

Recommended.

This was a lovely modern hotel, immaculately clean and welcoming. Room only was £85. Breakfast was £15 extra which I thought was too expensive. Very convenient to train station and I was able to gain points on my Carlson loyalty card. I would definitely stay there again when in Durham.

Room Tip: Room 240 overlooked the river and foot bridge. A pleasant view.

I was very impressed. I had a river view which was super. The room was very well equipped with in-room safe, iron and ironing board, lovely toiletries. It's only a short walk from Durham railway station. Recommended! I'd definitely stay there again.

we stayed one night for our birthday and engagement . room was nice but they had not put in the chocolates they had promised.only 2 tea bags and two sugars in room which would have been better if a few more tea bags.
the bar had no idea how to make cocktails, which they had told us they would do but couldnt !!
possibly the most i have ever paid for a latte as i was charged 3.50 and got a stale bit of cake.
we were unable to use any of the pool or sauna facilities as they were full all the time !!
the spa attached to the hotel was more like a room with a few cupboards to do the treatments in.
we had booked a treatment and it was impersonal and a bit like a conveyor belt.
my treatment was lovely and the girl who did it was lovely, however my partner said the girl who did his used her elbow on him and hurt his shoulder.would def not use again.
on the up side the place is nice and clean and we did have a lovely weekend with dear friends.
