First experience of staying in student accommodation during holiday period. It was clean and well kept with very good breakfast. Staff were friendly and there was a good atmosphere.
Only drawbacks were lack of WiFi and TVs in rooms but the price was very reasonable for what was on offer

This place clearly has no overall management and certainly staff are not focused on the paying customer. From overstaffed breakfast (8-9am!) where gossip but not service was on the agenda to the grumpy night porter who knew 'nothing about' my room change, this was not a good experience. I was put in a room in a block where workmen started drilling at 8.15am. The response ' they are not our workmen' clearly typifies what is wrong with this place. In my second room dripping taps/sink, (ruined my book as unbeknownst to me the ledge below the sink is permanently wet) decaying shower, black mould, silver fish. I could go on. Go somewhere else. You will get a better £42 a night experience in a local b and b.

Stayed here for a conference, for which the location was convenient. As you might expect from the name, the rooms are clean but bashed-up student accommodation. The walls and lintels were banged up and clearly hadn't been painted or repaired in a while. There was a lot of water damage around the shower area.

Wifi does not extend as far as the rooms, which is a major pain.

Breakfast was good, and its one of the more convenient colleges for the South Road Science campus.

Overall I think you can stay for about the same price at the Premier Inn in town, so there is not much reason to stay here unless you really value the convenience of being close to campus.

Room Tip: I'd ask for one facing away from the courtyard/quad where you might be less likely to be disturb...

I stayed here while attending a conference. The location is good. I walked into Durham centre in about 15 minutes (one road). On arrival reception was closed, but I found a very friendly security guard who let me in. I'll be honest, I sturggle with anyone selling this as anything other than student accommodation. I expected the single bed, no tv, no room service and so on, of course. I did not expect damp in the shower room, stains on the floor, cigerette burns in the furniture, hair all over the chair and no wifi.
There were tea making facilities and towels provided with a small bag of products (shampoo, soap, body wash and body cream - enough for one night). The bed was comfortable, but i did go to sleep wandering what might be crawling about around me.
Breakfast was in the canteen and was yummy. For the same price i could have stayed in the local low cost hotel, but potentially spent more on taxis.

I stayed here for a few days while at a conference held at the science campus in Durham. It was a good location - 5 mins walk away from the science campus, close to the city centre and right next to the botanic gardens.

For student digs, this was pretty decent. The ensuite room was quite big, with tea-making facilities and a really comfy bed. It was fairly quiet and the food was great.

The only niggles I have would be that there was no TV or wifi available, and it was a single bed not a double so if you like your creature comforts I'd say book into a hotel instead, but bear in mind that uni accommodation is much cheaper.
