“Thoroughly recommended - don't bother looking anywhere else!”

I stayed at Moor End while my daughter was at a residential visit at Durham University. It proved to be an excellent choice and a real oasis after a 5 hour drive. The owners could not have been more friendly, helpful or accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.
The en-suite bedroom was tastefully furnished, clean and spacious, fully equipped, well lit, and even offered free wi-fi. The dining room was prettily decorated and inviting, with a very tranquil atmosphere and delicious food. Facilities nearby include food shops, chemist, cashpoint, post office, and takeaway. Good quality, good value lunches and evening meals are available at a restaurant 2 min drive away (no need to book), or refreshments at the local pub. In addition, there is secure and free parking available at Moor End, with a park & ride just up the road if needed. Access to/from the A1M is quick and easy, and a 5-10 minute (depending on “rush hour” traffic) drive takes you into Durham itself. If I have to go back to Durham, I shall definitely stay here again. Basically, if you need to stay in Durham, do yourself a favour and just book here for a pleasant and relaxing visit. You won’t be disappointed. (NB Sat nav may guide you to the wrong house, so look out for the Sportsman’s Arms pub, and don’t go to the wrong No 8 opposite the shops further up the road!). Enjoy.

We were in Durham as a family group (of 3 generations) for an event at the university and opted to stay at a B&B rather than a budget hotel. This turned out to be a good decision. Moor End is very close to the A1 junction and easy to find next to the pub. It's a quick drive to the City Centre. After a very warm welcome which included tea and scones, we left our luggage and went into town.

The rooms are exceptionally clean, warm, comfortable and well-equipped. We had an early start on Sunday, but a hearty full English at 7.30am was no problem at all to Debbie and Martin. The breakfast menu gives a wide choice of cereals, preserves and hot dishes. We felt very well-looked after and would definitely stay again.

I stayed here for 1 night whilst at a meeting at the University. Really nice, tidy and clean place to stay. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Loads of information about the surrounding area provided. You are a 5 minute drive from Durham itself, 10-15 bus ride (bus stop just outside the house) or 2 minutes from the park and ride. The breakfast was lovely. Overall, would definitely recommend for anyone passing through or staying for a more extended break.

my husband and i stayed at 'moor end' for one evening only. we wished it had been for more! we arrived rather late due to being stuck in traffic but were warmly welcomed. the dining room looked beautiful and smelt the same! loads of pretty candles everywhere.
we were showed up to our room which was plenty big enough and SPOTLESSLY clean.even the tops of the cupboards and mirrors were dust free (ive been watching too much hotel inspector!)
large comfy bed with fresh bed linen. well stocked hospitality tray(including biscuits) and the room was warm! a rare treat as a lot of hotels are meant for inhabitants of outer siberia i swear!
after a good nights sleep we went down to breakfast which was good quality and plentiful. cereals, toast fruit juices e.t.c. HUGE full english breakfast cooked to perfection. nothing was too much trouble.
i have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending moor end and should we be staying in the area again this delightful place would certainly be my first choice.

A great place to stay. Owners are helpful and friendly and leave you to get on with your day. Room was warm, cosy and comfortable and clean with plenty of towels. Breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice. Definately recommend a stay there!

I was planning a solo trip to Durham and found Moor End via TripAdvisor. I emailed Debbie and Martin for some details as I'd be arriving pretty late in the evening: they said as pre-arranged this would be fine. Met on arrival by Debbie who was very welcoming even though it was near to 10pm!

Room was lovely and relaxing, decor bright but not fussy, breakfast was plentiful and very tasty, wide range of options (cereals, cooked breakfasts, hot drinks etc): met Martin serving breakfast who was as pleasant as Debbie. Coffee served in individual cafetieres, Martin even prompting me for some more (which I appreciated greatly!)

On departure I explained about a random channel-changing quirk on the TV in my room which Martin noted (was the first chance I'd had to explain so in fairness to Martin and Debbie no opportunity for them to do anything about it). I also highlighted that a surcharge for paying by card (listed on my invoice which I got on the first night) wasn't mentioned on their website: Martin took this with good grace, explained the reasoning for them having to levy the charge (short story it would seem to me the card issuers are price gouging!) - given all the outright positive points, and that when I raised some issues I was dealt with more than cordially would definitely recommend for anyone to stay at Moor End if they're in the area, and if I re-visit Durham I'll definitely have a look at staying there myself.

A lovely place to stay. Clean, friendly, comfortable and great attention to detail e.g. Mention what kind of tea you like and the very next morning it's there...right down to the brand! Breakfasts are great too!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter.
