“Not a patch on the Evesham Table,Table”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Went here on New Years Day for a meal, got there about 12.30 so several empty tables but did begin to fill up about 1pm,we could not believe how long we had to wait for our meal it was over 1/2hr before our starters arrived and then quite a wait for our main meal, would have had a dessert but wanted to get home before tea time!!!!!!! The meal was ok but not a patch on the service and meal we had on a visit to Evesham Table,Table might be good to train the staff at that venue, early last year we walked out of this Barnstaple venue as we sat at the table for 20mins and did not get anyone come near us -think they showed us to a table and forgot about us.Wish it was better service here as the car park is large ,nice and clean and well set out Restaurant.-just too slow.

Room Tip: only went for meal

I hadn't intended spending Christmas in a Premier Inn but circumstances required booking 3 night's accommodation in Barnstaple over the Christmas period and I am very glad we chose this one. The price was such a bargain that it was the logical choice for accommodation, especially as we would only be sleeping there. However, the size and cleanliness of the rooms, plus the facilities offered (tea-making gear, hair drier, huge towels, big screen TV), make it much better than the average budget hotel. They definitely live up to their "good night" advertising - although it was so quiet and the curtains so effective at blocking out the daylight that we both overslept (maybe you need to bring an alarm clock). It was easy to find and is conveniently located. Not the prettiest looking hotel - but the rooms are fine. I didn't use the restaurant but i think the grab and go breakfast (croissant and a decent cup of coffee for £2.95) seems like a good alternative for those who don't want to indulge in the massive breakfast. The staff we met were all pleasant and helpful. Last time we stayed at the Royal and Fortescue for 4 times the price - and the room was half the size of this one.

Room Tip: Chheck whether the lift is working if you have mobility problems.

I was really impressed with this Premier Inn; from the intial greeting and simple check-in process, to the quality of the room, everything exceeded my expectations for a £19-a-night booking. You can walk from here in to Barnstaple, Tesco is 5 minutes away, and it is right on the A361 so it is a good location for getting to and setting off from.
Every member of staff I encountered was polite and helpful.
The room itself was excellent and possibly only missing Sky HD! 30 minutes free wifi was useful and could be circumvented by logging in with other emails if you wanted too, or £3 for 24 hours is perfectly acceptable.
I do think £8.25 for an all you can eat breakfast is expensive, you can have two full breakfasts at Tescos for less; but you can have up to four kids eat free with one paying adult, so that may help some.

If I need to stop overnight in Barnstaple again, this will be my first choice.

This Premier Inn is very good. I have stayed here several times now and the recent update is nice. I would recommend it to anyone, although prices in the summer can be a little high. The price I paid on this visit was very good value.

Some what confusing layout which would be improved by having the disabled parking better signed as being between the two buildings so that way it's level to Reception rather than being at the front and then having steps to negotiate (something that it should be easy to notify with your booking).

Apart from this niggle, a pleasant stay whilst in Barnstaple for a friends significant birthday celebration.

The attached eatery doing an above average breakfast the following morning.

We have stayed here before, but the rooms have been re-furbished and are better than many 4 star hotels we have stayed in. The breakfast was absolutely excellent, all we could eat, four of us £30. (3 full English and 1 continental). Came out absolutely stuffed! Can't rate this place highly enough for the money. Good location, easy to get to North Devon coast.

Room Tip: We stayed facing the road, traffic noise not too bad, didn't bother us, but the back of the hote...

a good premier inn which we have stayed at several times however this time during the lunchtimes and evenings there was always several people standing right by the entrance to the premier inn restaurant smoking and you had to walk through a cloud of smoke to get inside and this was a similar case to the entrance to the actual hotel. Staff said it wasnt appropriate to smoke so close but were powerless to do anything about it.
