“Wonderful old fashioned service!”
Reviewed March 19, 2013 via mobile

I have stayed in some fine hotels but the service at The Imperial is by far the.best I have experienced. The public areas are sumptuous and the rooms very well appointed. Breakfast offers a wide choice and is excellent. My only gripe is the set meal on Saturday evening was expensive and not very good. The so called entertainer was dire and totally unnecessary.

What can I say... we visited this hotel a few years ago and had a wonderful stay.
we decided to return this March as a wedding anniversary treat and break.

We were not let down. The staff are wonderful, friendly but not intrusive, helpful, kind, and above all have a sense of humour.

The food was as before wonderful, always served hot and without delay, but allowing enough time to reflect on your first course. Menu modern but with traditional touches. The breakfast would see you through all day.
If there was nothing you fancied on the menu then the chef would do his utmost to find something you liked.

The cleanliness was brilliant, yet we never saw any housekeeping so they were there in the background beavering away quietly.

I can not wait to visit this hotel again, I always feel special after my stay and put it down to the wonderful staff and management.

Our first visit to this Hotel was a pleasant surprise. The hotel was beautifully furnished and spotless. They have an excellent, varied menu and all food was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented.
The main asset of the Imperial was, without doubt, the staff, who without exception were always courteous, helpful and willing.

There are pleasant walks along the river side and the town center is just a couple of minutes walk away with no inclines.

We were able to use the indoor swimming pool at their sister hotel, which was warm and the changing areas well maintained.

Room Tip: We booked one of the Imperial rooms on the second floor at the back which was spacious and very quie...

My wife and I have stayed at the Imperial a number of times an the standards are consistently high. The bedrooms have recently been refurbished to a very high standard, the staff are always welcoming nd friendly. The standard of catering in the resturant is superb and the service professional.
Fron the hotel it is an easy strole into the town of Banstaple. There are a number of National Trust houses, RHS gardens at Rosemore and the historic town of Torrington with the Dartington Crystal factory all within a reasonable drive through Devon countryside.
The Imperial is just one of the family managed Brend group of hotels in Devon and Cornwall.
It has no pool or fitness centre but for those who need them they are availiable at a nearby Brend hotel
We will certainly return again. David J.

Room Tip: We usually chose one or the standard rooms which are at the back of the hotel. To higher grade room...

We recently spent a week at the Imperial Hotel, which is a Brends Hotel. Brends provide a door-to-door service, picking us up from home and delivering us straight to the hotel. The mini-bus arrived a few minutes early and we had a good trip down to Barnstaple. Hotel is excellent all round. Several trips out were include in the price, including one to Sidmouth. Food excellent, also Valentine's Day celebrations and a very good concert from a local Ladies Choir.

We were booked into this hotel as part of a large party which turned out to be Valentine weekend. We had 4 course evening meals where the food was excellent, It was such a pleasure to be served by waiting staff who knew how to wait properly. Breakfast was also excellent.
Also, as a woman, I really appreciate the hot plates!!!
Nothing was too much trouble for anybody. All the staff were courteous and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook carpark or A/C units

We stayed for four nights in the Imperial Hotel as part of a sixty strong group. The staff were outstanding. friendly, attentive, caring and very efficient. Of all the hotels around the world I have stayed in they are the top of my list. -Better than on the Queen Mary II
The food was excellent , with a wide choice from an imaginative menu.
The rooms were clean, quiet and very comfortable.
You can not go wrong if you stay there.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the river have good views.
