Having found so few restaurants open in Barnstaple on a quiet March Sunday evening, my best man and I decided upon Pizza Express in the High Street.
When we walked in after 9pm, the restaurant itself was very quiet with only one table occupied, the guests of which were getting ready to leave. Unfortunately we noticed the waiter roll his eyes at the chef when he saw us walk in - clearly they were looking forward to an early close.
My best man had a four seasons pizza and I had a calzone, one of only a few on the menu. After ordering the calzone I noticed that they had a separate calzone menu which the waiter had failed to point out, or 'sell' to us.
That and the rolled eyes aside, the food was excellent.
The waiter was always cleaning up throughout our meal preparing to close and as he was doing so a further group of four walked in, how just!
The only reason why the restaurant is awarded four TripAdvisor 'blobs' instead of five is because of the service, everything else was superb and I would still recommend and return.
