Owner description: Winner of the Legacy award ,Best Family Business 2017, Gold award for best attraction in the South-west 2012, Exmoor Zoo has become an ideal family day out. The zoo has established a good rapport with the North Devon community and offers a very hand on experience for all its visitors.Activities run throughout the day (every half hour in summer), you get to meet a bird eating spider, hold a snake, feed wallabies (under supervision), meet some of the zoos friendly furry animals and of course go to all the talks and feeding sessions (if you can)!Home to the “Exmoor Beast” (a pair of black leopards), Puma, Cheetah, Maned wolves, monkeys and lots of other unusual animals like Tamandua, Fishing cats, Tapir, Singing dogs and Binturong to just name a few! The zoo is a living place with changes all the time; no visit is ever quite the same.Useful information:• Disabled access (wheelchair provision and scooter hire)• Activities through out the day• Cafeteria• Children’s playground• Undercover picnic areas• Zoo trail.

Really enjoyed our visit today, loved the natural environment, seeing the animals and birds.
quite a small zoo, but that's a good thing as all the animals looked well.
lovely to see the wild cats and the platforms are a great view point.
would we go recommend this zoo and will be returning in the near future.

An hour covered our visit with 2 teenage boys. They loved it. The site is well maintained, staff were very friendly with an informative greeting of what was on and when. Very well catered for younger children.
The animals were lovely and well kept.

We visited on our recent trip to Ilfracombe. We loved this zoo and thought the prices were very reasonable (we paid partly by Tesco vouchers we got in advance knowing we were going to visit but would have happily paid the full price also which was much cheaper than many we have visited). We saw animals in almost every enclosure and lots of animals we have never had the chance to see before. There was a lovely picnic area and although we seemed to go a long way downhill the walk uphill was very gentle. We thought it may be a very quick visit but we stayed over 3 hours looking at everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend.

It is lovely, for children to experience seeing different animals, that they otherwise wouldn’t see. This was a treat as part of our holiday. The only thing I would like to mention, is that there were a couple of enclosures that looked as though they needed updating. The majority however were well kept and seemed fit for purpose. We really enjoyed listening to the keepers talks and the spiderphobia encounter. One of the kids loved holding the bird eating spider and the other said his favourite was the exmoor beast.

My 10 year old son did the junior Zookeeper Experience at Exmoor Zoo today and I really can’t recommend it enough! The Zookeeper Alex was fantastic he was really friendly and fun and knew just how to communicate with my son and tell him lots of information about the animals in an interesting way.
The jobs he got to do and the animals he got to interact with were a really varied mix, he did lots of cleaning out, raking enclosures, feeding and water changes and replenishing bedding, he even picked up wallaby poo! ( with gloves on!) it has obviously been really well thought out with safety a main feature, that said he still got to touch and hand feed many of the animals with grooming the tapirs a particular highlight. Although the experience might seem at first a lot of money it is definitely worth every penny, you even get two free lunches and a gift for your child upon completion. It lasts for 3 hours which was about right for my son’s attention span, after which you can have lunch and spend the afternoon there at your leisure. It’s been a wonderful day, a big thank you to Alex and all the other staff that work there that so clearly care so much about the welfare of all the animals and also those who work in the reception/ shop and restaurant, everyone was very friendly and helpful, we will be back, particularly as my husband fell in love with Pedro the armadillo!
