You must go and see this abbey. It is massive and you can only imagine how beautiful it would have been. I suggest buying the guide book so you can understand what you are looking at.

We thought the fee to enter was a little expensive for what it is to be honest. You can’t really spend much time here as there’s not an awful lot to see. The remains of the abbey are great to look at and for some pictures to be taken but after walking around a little there’s not much to do and Abbey House grounds are just as beautiful to walk around.

Furness abbey is somewhere you should put on your places to visit. Set in lovely quiet peaceful surroundings, really nice walks round about. Also a small cafe/restaurant which is certainly worth a visit. Good food and reasonably priced.

This is a beautiful place just outside of Barrow itself.
We are experienced English Heritage visitors and I was disappointed with this site.
The museum was interesting but there wasn’t any audio tour and no guidance boards around the rather large site. So once you left the museum it just felt a waste of a learning opportunity.
Wasted chance of revenue for what is a spectacular ruined abbey.
