“Aspire wine bar”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

went to Aspire over christmas. lovely clean bar with a good cocktail list. staff trying hard but have a long way to go i.e- hints

1) waitress carrys drinks over holding glasses- a tray is the way to go

2) no bar mats- glasses sticking to tables

3) a group of men sttod inside bar entrance smoking- manager asked them to go outside once then ignored them when they didnt

4) stff need to look for people who need more drinks- if its waitress service you shouldnt have to keep going to find the staff to get more drinks.-

5) music to loud to talk

6) drinks missing the extra touchs, like friut in dink-was on menu

the place needs work but its the best place in barrow for a relaxing drink

I have to congratulate the Hotel on the Dinner Dance they organised for New Years Eve. The dinner was lovely the entertainment was excellent, and the disco provided the rest of the nights entertainment.. Hope you do another one for 2013. Will definitely be recommending it..

I've stayed at the Imperial on enough occasions now that I feel satisfied that I can give a balanced review as some of my lesser experiences have been tempered with some better times.

The hotel has been recently refurbished and has a very welcoming, and plush, entrance which sits alongside the the in house cocktail bar, Aspire. Staff at reception are generally welcoming, a familiar face tends to get an expected knowing response, but the booking and out process is efficient.

The rooms can vary in quality. One room that I have stayed in had occasional dripping water coming through the ceiling over the bathroom sink. It looked clear that this had been an ongoing problem as the ceiling had tell tale brown scoring across the plaster. Some of the walls can also be thin so that you can hear the conversation that your neighbour is having on the phone or with a partner. I know that this can be down to the volume of the individual but this has happened more than once.

The overall quality of the sleeping areas is good with the standard teas and coffees and large Freeview TV on offer. The matresses can vary in quality and in a few rooms it might help if they were turned more regularly as some definitely are taking on a fixed 'slept on' body shape. The rooms are warm, and all of the towels are replaced without question after use.

The Imperial does not have a restaurant so you have to wander to the sister hotel, The Majestic, which is a five minute walk, or try one of the limited other options in the town. Breakfast service at the Imperial had been a mixed bag but seems have settled down recently. There is a good selection of cereals, muffins and pastries with a cooked option also available.

Parking can be a problem and I am aware that people have used the 'gated parking', however directly opposite the hotel is the town hall car park which is free between 1800 and 0800 which is no different than most in town accommodations in this and other countries.

I have not stayed on nights when the night club is open because I have heard from colleagues who have that the sound does travel through the hotel. But if you stay on any night other than a Thursday to Saturday you will find this hotel very reasonably priced and more than acceptable in the current financial climate.

I was in barrow on business. On arrival the hotel does not look much and I had to go to reception to ask where the free parking was. The reception staff quickly opened a large gate and I was able to park in a safe locked courtyard. Once in the hotel itself is of a very high standard. The bar and reception area is bright and I was quickly in the lift going to my well appointed bedroom. The room was very clean and well appointed although if I had a criticism the mattress was a bit too soft for my liking. The free wifi was very welcome. All in all I was very Impressed.

We have just returned form our first visit to the Imperial hotel. We had previously stayed at the Majestic when visiting Barrow, but because we needed the use of a lift on this visit, we decided to book into the Imperial. What a good decision that was! The staff on reception were polite, helpful and extremely friendly. We booked directly with the hotel who recommended rooms on the top floor due to weekend noise from the nightclub. After parking the car in the secured hotel carpark, we found our rooms which actually were suites with a bedroom, bathroom and lounge with wall mounted TV. The rooms were spotlessly clean and very, very comfortable if a little too warm. The bathroom was modern with an excellent shower. Breakfast was served in the functions room and as mentioned previously there were only circular tables laid for 8. However, this was not a problem for us as we had a table to ourselves each morning. Breakfast was excellent particularly the buffet which included fresh fruit, ham and cheese in addition to the usual cereals, croissants etc. The wine bar was popular with Barrow residents, but we were served each evening. We were not disturbed by nightclub noise but beware of the recently repaired town hall clock which chimes every quarter hour all night.
My one slight complaint would be the lack of a hairdryer in the room. I would have thought that in a hotel of this standing, hairdryers would be provided. Apparantly there was one at reception but it always seemed to be in use.
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would certainly return on our next visit to Barrow, probably with a pair of ear plugs for the clock( not a problem that can be solved by the hotel).

Room Tip: For weekend visitors choose the top floor to limit the noise from the nightclub.

We were supposed to stay at the majestic hotel on a Saturday night however when we arrived at 4pm we were told someone had mistaken my double exec booking for a single and there were now no doubles available. Luckily the hotel had a twin hotel, imperial hotel, which was apparently much nicer. However, this hotel had no parking so we had to park over the road and pay! We were then unable to get any sleep due to the bars and nightclubs underneath the hotel, even though we were 3 floors up and had ear plugs! As we had to be up at 6.30 this was not welcomed! The noise was extremely loud and caused the room to feel like it was vibrating! I would not stay here and would not recommend anyone else do so unless you are going to be out to the early hours! The bedroom itself was ok. We stayed in room 308 which had stains down one side of the wall from where it looked like there had been a leak! I would also suggest taking some pillows as the ones at the hotel are as solid as a rock!

Hotel is an old building which looks like it's had a recent refurb. Window in room was old wooden single glazing but the decent sized room looked very new. There was a 32 inch flatscreen TV which had all the Freeview channels (most hotels I've been to only have some of the Freeview channels for some reason), kettle and some storage space. Room and bathroom were very clean. I stayed on a weeknight so didn't hear any music which others have complained about and had a good night's sleep. Cooked breakfast was good too. I would stay here again if I ever go back to Barrow.
