My husband, children and i had a lovely nights stay at the hotel, rooms were warm clean and comfortable. We also visited the south lakes animal park with the children which is only a 5 minute drive from the hotel. The food from the restaurant was very good, well above average. We would definitely stay here again.

This is a family run hotel with a friendly atmosphere.
The menu is a little limited, but then again I may just be biased as I really fancied a curry and there was not one on the menu!
The staff and owners are friendly and the rooms quiet and clean.
Have stayed before and will stay again!

Room Tip: Make sure you tell the staff the sort of room you would like when booking.

This hotel is far too expensive for what it is and particularly the meals in the restaurant are poor value for money. There are no real amenities in the hotel and the upper floor rooms in the old part of the hotel gave showers that simply don't work. If you are staying there then find somewhere else to eat - the area offers many good quality pubs with similar menus in more pleasant environments and at sensible prices.

Room Tip: If you want a decent shower, don't accept a top floor room.

We had a family gathering at the Chetwynde with 17 people staying. The staff of the Chetwynde were fantastic, they couldn't do enough to help and made our stay a great experience. The food was very tasty, well presented and they catered for the large number of us in one sitting, with ease.

Room Tip: All rooms are well appointed, if you want a little more space I would recommend then new annex rooms...

Stayed on business with a colleague. Arrived very early (9.15) as we had meetings locally and wanted to leave one of our cars at the hotel. Very pleasant receptionist checked us in early although room wasn't ready, and gave us an upgrade to the annexe. Everything was done simply and easily and with a smile. having been out all day arrived back at about 19.30 and booked table in restaurant without any problems. Had a drink at the bar and sat in the lounge reading the menu and were called through when the starter was ready. The starter and main course (didn't need a pudding!) were very good. My colleague is a very keen cook and can be very critical of restaurant food but like me he was impressed with the food both in the quality and quantity. There was a reasonable choice of food on the menu and although we didn't have room for the desserts the options looked good. Restaurant staff were efficient, friendly and very pleasant offering a jug of iced water without being asked.

The bedrooms in the annexe look quite new, with a large bed, large wall mounted flat screen TV, chest of drawers, bedside tables, and average sized wardrobe (with iron and ironing board). tea & coffee making facilities with biscuits (and a piece of Kendal mint cake) plenty of coffee sachets, tea (fruit and breakfast), milk and hot chocolate. Good bathroom, with a walk in shower easy controls and plenty of room to turn round in. Almost instant hot water and hot towel rail.

We had a meeting at 07.00 in the morning and needed to leave by 06.40. Breakfast is normally served from 06.30 but the hotel offered to make sure there were cereals, fruit, coffee/tea available earlier for us. In the end we went back before 09.00 for a full English and were very glad we did. it was served quite quickly cooked to order, and I don't think either my colleague or I needed any lunch!. the food was well cooked and delicious.

This is a well run family hotel, with well trained staff, a very good chef and in an ideal location for visiting Barrow. Plenty of parking for the number of rooms.

I note the comments from other people who have stayed here regarding their standard rooms and can only comment on the annexe rooms which I found very good.

Mid price range, but so much better than a cheaper, budget chain hotel.

Room Tip: The annexe rooms are good value, and the annexe is attached to the main hotel
