We stopped at the Chetwyne as it was very close to a wedding we were attending. The accommodation was excellent, we were in an annex which had been newly completed and was everything you would want in a room; 6 foot bed, spacious room and bathroom etc. We dined in the hotel restaurant on the Saturday evening and had a very good meal and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The restaurant lacked a little atmosphere as there were only four couples in that night. The owners were around and very chatty and friendly and were happy to be told of the minor criticism regarding no easily accessible plug socket for the hair dryer near a mirror.

Barrow-in-Furness also turned out to be a nice town, a bit short on good shops but what town isn't now a days. The Dock Museum was worth a visit and a walk on the beach at Biggar Bank was envigourating and peaceful. Furness Abbey was also a great place to visit.

I stayed in one of the superior rooms in the new annex. What an excellent room it was, well furnished and fitted out. A very comfortable two night stay. Could not fault it in any way. It looked like the public areas were still being renovated, but it would have been better if they waited until after they had finished serving breakfasts before starting decorating. A minor matter which did not spoil my visit.

Stayed here for 2 nights 4/7/2012 - 5/7/2012 on business. I was in a "superior Double" which was in a new accomodation building next to the main house. The room was modern, nice, clean, comfortable and most importanly quiet so I got a good night sleep both nights. I did not eat dinner at the hotel so I can't comment on that, but I did have the inclusive breakfasts which are fairly basic and nothing special but certainly adequate.

For the clean modern and very quiet room with free Wifi I would happily recomend it for business and those NOT after a romantic frilly room.

The new (less than a year old) annexe is very tastefully fitted out.
The restaurant is quite good and based on my experiences of other eateries in Barrow, is certainly one to try.
Large lounge and bar area.

Room Tip: Request the Annexe

The Chetwynde hotel in Barrow in Furness is a jewel. My wife and I stayerd there for two nights at the end of May and were absolutely captivated by the building, the service and the sheer professionalism in the hotel.
Although we didn't eat at night we were totally thrilled by the varied, and unusual menu that was on show. This is a hotel that mixes old and new. The main building is a 19th century building but an additional building at the rear is light and modern. The service is friendly, warm and professional, modern hotels take note, from the management/owners to the chambermaids and the waiting and kitchen staff.

This is a must for anyone staying in the Barrow area. Thank you Chetwynde Hotel.

Stayed for two days. Room reasonable, breakfast quite good. Little outside of main area so long walks or taxis needed. Place is quite nice, I would say it probably had a last design 15 or so years ago and while its very clean and tidy it is also a bit dated compared to modern hotels. My mum would have preferred it to me.

We stayed as a family for two nights and almost everything about our stay was ideal. A clean, quiet adequately equipped room. Plenty of safe parking. Good food and friendly staff. Ideally located for our needs. Good value for money. Only one minor point was that the restaurant was closed on our second day but we were advised of this well in advance which allowed us to make alternative arrangements - plenty of nearby places to eat. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 18 - Superior double. No view but excellent for a silent night's sleep.
